Coming of age teens, ghosts, and self-doubts combine to bring a story almost alive.
A teenager disappeared. There are no leads, until a group of friends decides to investigate. Life goes on for those friends, and sometimes gets in the way of the investigation.
While this story started out a bit slow, it turned out to be very good. I was able to guess some parts, yet was unable to guess the actual ending. I also enjoyed the mild romance of this story, which seems to be a combination of paranormal and coming of age. I am very pleased with the way the author portrayed an individual with Down's Syndrome.
I think this author writes to entertain the reader, but also to educate readers of what is possible. There are many things in this world that fall under strange, weird, or improbable. For those of us that accept this idea, possibilities are almost endless. For those who can not accept that idea, this will still be a good fictional tale.
I can easily recommend this story to young adults. As a coming of age story, it will please most readers. It will also appeal to readers of paranormal phenomenon. I am looking forward to more by this author.
It's a great Girl Power/ Coming of Age/ Rites of Passage story.
I ordered "The Ghosts Of Rapid Creek" because the description said it took place in Upstate New York, where I live. I enjoyed the references to Lake Ontario, the apple farms, Auburn, Rochester, Syracuse etc. I know there's a Paranormal Society in the area too and reference to that.
Upstate NY has some outstanding cemeteries so I could imagine the girls in one.
It's also a story of understanding how important respect is for Downs Syndrome kids.
Really nice story.
