What would you do if for some reason the man you were in love with up and left; changing your life completely? Henry disappeared from Emma’s life over five years ago. Now he is back and wanting to pick up where they left off. I know in these circumstances I would be a little skeptical. After all why now does he want me back? Wasn’t I good enough five years ago? I know there are times when things happen that leave us questioning everything.
I have learned that it is a hard thing trying to develop characters when writing a short story or novella. However I think that Ms. Parker did a rather nice job in bringing Emma and Henry to life. They were likable to say the least. Even some of the lesser characters you could identify with. The story overall was promising. I would have liked it to be just a bit longer so that some questions I had while reading this story could have been dealt with. Wishing for a longer story for Emma and Henry isn’t that bad is it? I wanted more depth to the story and characters. I also didn’t think the title fit the story and found it a little confusing.
It seems there are some people who do not want to see this couple together, however, and just when it looks like they may finally get their relationship back on track, something happens that threatens to tear them apart for good. Will Henry fight for the woman he loves this time, or will he let Fate dictate his future?
Well written, with believable characters that are easy to identify with, I found this a very enjoyable read.
Some of other Regency stories I have read have been tedious and a bit long. This delightful story was a good length with fully developed characters and plot line. Anyone who likes short stories set in this time period will most likely enjoy this story of Emmaline and Duke Henry Westmoreland. It is a story that can be enjoyed any time of the year and I will most likely read it every Christmas time.
