I must say that I’m a bit disappointed in this book. Don’t get me wrong it was a good book but it lacked the wow factor that I’ve come to love about mafia books. I mean there was a bit of suspense but it was only on the surface. It wasn’t really oh my God hang on to your kindle kind of suspense. Gian wasn’t as bad*** as I would have liked. He was to an extent but again it was just on the surface. As for Evie she lacked the backbone that I’ve come to love about mafia heroines. She ran from just about everything instead of facing it head on. However she was likeable as was Gian and they fit together. The chemistry was there as was the heat.
I didn’t appreciate the scene between Evie and Gian’s mom. I thought she was cold and downright mean. She may not have approved of Evie but hell she didn’t have to be so mean with her words. It was unexpected and not what I was accustomed to. I was really taken back.
The ending was a bit predictable and seemed rushed. However all of those things aside this book did pique my interest and held my attention enough to finish it. Overall it wasn’t a bad read. I just wanted so much more.
