Giant Pussy Willow (Salix chaenomeloide ) Rare According to an old Polish legend, many springtime s ago a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river in which her kittens were drowning. The willows at the river's edge longed to help her, so they swept their long graceful branches into the waters to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen into the river while chasing butterflies. The kittens gripped on tightly to their branches and were safely brought to shore. Each springtime since, goes the legend, the willow branches sprout tiny fur-like buds at their tips where the tiny kittens once clung.

When plant first came, I received 2 different cuttings, 1 for giant pussy willow and 1 for mt asama pussy Willow. They come as basically a 12 inch long stem with a few leaves, no roots. One looked like it was in bad shape and the other was fine. Quickly planted both in 5 gallon pots and notified company in case the asama did not make it. I told the company is give them a chance. They responded and said to let them know if a replacement needed to be sent, so that was cool. The asama had very whithered leaves that were were brown and dry. Stem looked okay though. After planting in standard organic potting soil, I had googled a lot so I knew to keep it watered and in sun. Unbelievable growth rate on these! I live in Seattle, and planted in June - it never gets too hot here. I have lo idea how, but after planting - within 1 week the Asama that I thought would die, spit out a 2nd branch/plant. The new stem was 3 inches long by the end of the first week... And the giant pussy willow got new leaves and I thought it was going to sprout a second plant, but it didn't. It's now mid-August and both of my asama stems are the same length now - about 13 inches long and busting with new leaves. Very healthy. The old and dry leaves I was worried about when it arrived, fell off. The giant pussy willow has grown longer/taller and more big leaves but no 2nd stalk. Both are amazing growers and very fast. The only thing im doing is keeping them on my deck where they get full sun half the day and shade the rest, and I water them to keep the soil moist. Would totally buy again. Healthy cuttings will come!
