Overall though, it does appear to be nicely built and will work fine for our needs. The price was also a good price for what was received.
My mailbox flag is missing the little piece that goes on the inside of the box and holds the flag on. I ordered this new 'kit' hoping this would fix the problem but it won't.
First of all I don't need a new flag but you can't just buy the little piece you need. Secondly, the little piece can't hold the flag on the box because.....it needs a screw! No screws come with this kit. I could have fixed my old flag if I go to the hardware store and buy a bolt with a nut. I even drilled a hole through my flag for a bolt but the one I have is a bit too short.
What good is this flag kit if it doesn't include the screws it needs? It actually needs FIVE screws. Four if you intend to use the additional black piece to hold your flag. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
It has been on my mailbox now for about 15 months. The red color is still usable, but it is fading toward an off-white.
The flag is on the north side of my mailbox, so it has been shaded from strong sunlight by the box itself. If your flag faces any other direction of the compass, it will fade faster.
This product needs a lot better protection from Ultraviolet Light.
That said, if the reason you are replacing your flag is recurring vandalism, this product may be a better choice than a strong metal flag.
In addition to higher cost, a strong metal flag is less likely to break away from the box without damaging it, which means you might have to replace your mailbox too.
The install: took about 10 minutes because I wanted to get a nice clean flush mount and had to cut off a couple plastic alignment pins. If I didnt want to do that then it would've been a few minute job.
