LP 50'S Tribute Left Hand

From the Manufacturer

The Les Paul 50s Tribute

A Timeless Tribute to the Man Who Started it All

Gibson USA is celebrating 2013 as the Year of Les Paul, and is blowing it up big with a new series of decade-dedicated Tribute Les Pauls, each of which honors the artistry and innovation of inventor and guitarist Les Paul by capturing the essence of a great Les Paul guitar from one of four different eras. All embody the full magic of this legendary guitar design, but are stripped down for improved value and no-nonsense performance.

Gibson Les Paul 50s Tribute
Genuine Mahogany neck with a '50s rounded profile and Rosewood fingerboard
Based on the Original Les Paul

The Les Paul '50s Tribute nails the look, feel, and tone of the set-neck, single-cutaway solidbody that started it all- the original Les Paul Model of the early to mid 1950s. Like the first Les Paul guitars, the Les Paul '50s Tribute carries a pair of screaming P-90 pickups, the fat Gibson single-coil that has been beloved for more than six decades, along with the comfortably rounded neck profile characteristic of that decade. A step up to Gibson's most acclaimed hardware set improves playability and offers precise tuning and intonation.

And, like all Les Paul and SG 2013 Tribute Series guitars, the Les Paul '50s Tribute is available upgraded with Min-ETune automated "robot" tuners for a nominal upcharge. The Les Paul '50s Tribute looks great in your choice of Vintage Sunburst, Wine Red, Ebony Black, or Goldtop finish, all in Vintage Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

Classic 1950s Tone and Depth

Just like the greatest Les Paul Standards ever made, the Les Paul '50s Tribute starts with the classic tonewood combination of a Genuine Mahogany body with solid carved maple top. When paired, these woods offer a tonal depth and complexity unmatched by any single-wood construction, with warmth and richness from the Genuine Mahogany, and superb clarity and "snap" from the maple. The Genuine Mahogany back is strategically weight relieved to both lighten your load and improve resonance.

A solid Genuine Mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibson's time-tested tradition, and carved to a comfortably rounded '50s profile that measures .818" at the 1st fret and .963" at the 12th. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays. In keeping with the stripped-down ethos of this powerful performer, both body and 'board remain unbound, and there's no pickguard to obscure the finish. A PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian subtly complements the black top-hat knobs with silver inserts, while enhancing resonance and sustain. The traditional back-angled headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson logo and Les Paul Model.

P-90 Pickups

The Les Paul '50s Tribute takes its firepower from a pair of P-90 pickups, some of the most revered tone machines in Gibson history. The P-90s currently made by Gibson USA adhere strictly to the vintage formula, which includes genuine Alnico V bar magnets and coils wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for all the growl, snarl, and articulation that has made the originals legendary. The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations.

Durable Hardware for Reliable Intonation

To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, with a set of genuine Grover kidney button tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the Les Paul '50s Tribute presents the perfect celebration of Les Paul's genius and achievement, wrapping it into a great guitar that brings the look, feel, and sound of the first generation of Les Pauls to the hands of players of today.

What's in the Box?

Ok, let's see: U.S. made Gibson, not an Epiphone - check, Mahogany body with maple cap - check, Rosewood fingerboard - check, some decent Grover kidney tuners, not those god-awful tulip or other vintage-style crap-looking tuners - check, P-90s pick-ups - double check! The sort-of-satin-not-endlessy-buffed-into-shiny-splendor vintage sunburst finish is actually quite attractive, and the backside shows the natural mahogany, not some gloss black finish. I am used to very slim and wide metal guitar necks, but the rounded profile of this one is perfectly fine - this is not a baseball club neck at all.

Overall, I don't quite see the 50s connection (except the P-90's maybe) but I don't really care - that was way before I was born. It's a sweet-playing, sweet-sounding guitar, bought at a sub-$600 price. Nothing quite like it - based on what I paid I should really give it 5 stars.

I really like this guitar, its fairly easy to play. I'm in my 40's but a noobe on the guitar and was looking at Epiphone Les Pauls when I found the Gibson LP 50's tribute Goldtop. The sound and feel is great. Cosmetically mine is flawless. No noise in the pots and the stock strings seem fine. It stays in tune well. One thing on mine I notice the P90 pickups are a little loosely attached, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I'll probably take it in and get a setup done to be sure its in top form.
I've played acoustics and a Fender as well as a Epiphone SG and this Gibson just sounds and plays great. So you don't have to spend thousands to get a great Gibson guitar. I'm still in awe that I have a Gibson Les Paul guitar. If you get this guitar I don't think you'll regret it. In fact I'm now kicking myself that I didn't get one years ago.

I already own several Gibsons, including a Trad and a Custom.
I'm very happy with the Tribute. I love the stripped down, no frills look and I'm a sucker for gold tops, fat 50s style necks and P90s.

The out of the box-playability rivals more expensive guitars. The neck is smooth, the fretwork is fine and the strings stay in tune even though I have a heavy touch. No need to adjust the truss rod.

Delivery to Europe was fast and trouble free.

I'll start this by saying I recently bought a left handed vintage burst finish version of this guitar. For the price I must say it's a pretty solid instrument. Out of the packaging it was set up and tuned exactly to D tuning. (I've played lefty guitars in local shops that were so far out of tune it was sick, so brownie points there.) The action is great and fast. It has an actual rosewood fret board which Gibson has gotten away from using on it's low end guitars. The P90s are smooth, clean and have great tone. It has authentic Gibson electrons. The P90s plug into a circuit board, which I imagine changing pickups would be very simple and user friendly. Now for some of the drawbacks. The finish on the body of my model has a lot of orange pile still showing. From a distance the finish looks ok, but up close it's very rough. My model has a plastic nut. (Which myself I don't care for, but the intonation is still great.) It has Grover tuners (I wish it had authentic Gibson tuners, but they could've used a lot cheaper tuners. So this is just nit picking on my part.) If you can get past the cosmetic flaws it's a pretty solid machine. I've spent a lot more on guitars that have really disappointed me. I've spent $1200 Les Paul Studio that was total garbage. (Being left handed it's very rare I get to try out a guitar before I buy it. So I have to roll the dice on ordering guitars) For the price and function I give this guitar 5 stars.

This guitar is as described in the posting, and the delivery is exceptionally fast. I stay out of the states, but the delivery was delivered today, barely a week after purchase. Mind you that i ordered from amazon export,so it may vary for other orders. The guitar came in a Gibson original, felt inner-lay nylon bag. Very well cushioned for the guitar. Also in a Gibson box,and inspected and checked by Gibson technicians and certified. The electronics work well and everything is just in great condition. Some users feel the fret ends on the sides of the neck is abit sharp. But really, you won't feel so much if you don't slide so aggressively, which i don't know for what, after all,it's a Gibson, not a Ibanez or ESP. Just wished i could afford a Les Paul traditional or classic as it would have sweeten the experience more. Thank you Amazon. I feel so inspired now.

A little update, just tried it more today, and i realized that there is fret buzz. On open strumming, the low E rattles a little but only if u strum like real hard. Other than that, the 5th A and 6th E will buzz from the 5th all the way to the 16 fret. Not too much an issue, but it really does get to you. I thought at first that it was my poor tabbing, but i did sold guitars before, like 7 years ago,and after really practicing hard on the last 3 strings,i founded out that the buzz exist. I was hoping that this would be a great buy and last me for a long time, and seeing the delivery and packaging detail was astonishing, but i guess i can figure why now. Slightly dissapointed, not at Amazon of course, but of this particular piece Gibson les paul from Gibson.

Another update....
So after 2 weeks of changing strings and messing with the thrust rod a bit here and there,I finally manage to take away any form of buzzing on open strings...
