The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2014 -Premium Quilt model gives you a Modern weight relief Mahogany body with a AAA Figured Quilted Maple top. Like all 2014 models the 120th Anniversary banner is on the 12th fret. The neck is an asymmetrical 60"s slim taper neck and the guitar has the new extra-large strap buttons. As if that wasn"t enough the guitar ships with Coated strings which ensures longer string life by protecting strings from corrosion due to skin acidity, salt and moisture without compromising feel or tone. The pickups in the LP Standard are the Burst bucker Pro 1+2 with Push/Pull taps, phase changing and pure bypass.

You may have already read about how it's made, seen the marketing material, watched a few videos and listened to highly skilled musicians get some impressive music out of the versatile 2014 Les Paul Standard. If not, you should at least do that before buying. I recommend watching some of the videos regarding the 2014 Gibson line from Rob Chapman and the Captain, they have some amazing skills and are fun to watch.
Each quilt-top book-matched wood pair is one of a kind. Don't expect it to look like the optimized images online. If you want to be particular about choosing the wood grain and the unique way the stain colors play with those details then go to a store and pick out your very own.
Had planned to get the flame top, but instead picked up the quilt top for only a few hundred more via Amazon. I don't know if that was a fluke in pricing, or if a few of the quilt tops were less desirable somehow. Still expensive.
A few pages could be written about these instruments but I'll save some time for all of us with bullet points.
-- Ocean Water Blue is mostly turquoise, reminds me of the oceans around Maui
-- Incredible sound and tone versatility
-- Slick frets make you think you're a better player
-- Coil taps, not everyone's idea of desired tone, but they have funky-fun with effects pedals
-- Looks like art
-- Plays like art too
-- The case is exceptionally high quality
-- Made in America, if that matters
-- Smells good, odd to say, but I don't know what they put on it, I want more, comment if you know what kind of oil or wax that is
-- Cost is painful to justify, spouse does not approve
-- Buying online doesn't allow you to pick the exact top of your choice
-- No electric tuner as on the flame top
-- Interior of the case is more pink than red
-- Significant other or spouse may be upset at the amount it's played
-- Doesn't make me play any better, possibly money better spent on lessons
-- Probably don't have the skills to justify this instrument
