I think what makes this book stand out the most, for me personally, is its pure originality and uniqueness. The plot is very creative and unlike anything I’ve read in the past. As well as this, the writing style of an absolute top quality – it’s vivid, detail-rich, and carries with it a fast-paced, page-turner type undertone. I was also glad to find that much of the book is written with quiet a lighthearted and upbeat vibe. The author has a clever sense of humor which is evident in many scenes throughout the book and even though I rarely find myself laughing out loud while reading, I couldn’t help but find myself doing so in some of the wackier, bizarre scenes. In summary, I enjoyed the read and I wholeheartedly recommend it to others
A very positive aspect of Jack Lindsey’s writing is his ability to play on contemporary issues that confound us all and turn those ubiquitous snares into comedy, allowing us to laugh at our own foibles. In this book Jack addresses the current obsession with gaming – not the sportsmanlike fox hunting or sports or table tennis or fishing – but games like social media selfies, tweets, Facebook chats, and the very current Pokemon Go follow the creature into various arenas! And while Jack is not preachy about the side effects of games he does demonstrate how wrong they can go.
There is a very fine synopsis of GIFFORD’S GAMES that allows the shopping reader in the Kindle category the ability to become a fan of Jack. ‘A prototype computer game he has devised spells trouble for Guy Gifford. The player has to steal five billion pounds from the Bank of England and then escape. The problem is that the authorities think the money has really been stolen and Guy is responsible. He sets off in a mad dash across England and Wales with Spike, a gorgeous computer hacker. The police, security forces and uncompromising villains follow in his wake. His only hope is to prove his innocence before his pursuers catch up with him otherwise he could spend the rest of his life in jail or forever be on the run. Misunderstandings abound and the only way out is for Gifford to play more games.’
One of the key elements in Jack's armamentarium of gifts is his ability to create fully three-dimensional characters - and characters they are, rather than just simply people. And example of his wit and style follows: ` "It's a game I'm road testing. You've got to withdrawal as much money as you can from the world's largest banks, escape from Hong Kong, keep out of jail and catch a plane to the Bahamas without the world's press, your wife and your mistress, in Newport Pagnell, being none the wiser." "Why Newport Pagnell?" "Ah! That's due to the brilliants of my game play. No one would suspect anyone having a mistress in Newport Pagnell. Bet you can't beat my score." "You're on. Mail it over."
Full of keen humor and situations that mold into complication and unfold equally well into a fine dénouement, GIFFORD’S GAMES is a compleat pleasure to read. Grady Harp, August 16
This is a fast, fun read, filled with humor and unexpected twists. The dialogue is rich and natural, the descriptions are vivid — I especially appreciate the English setting — and the characters are relatable and fun. The plot itself it quite original and easy to follow. I was expecting something a little more serious, but this was a terrific surprise. The humor is witty and smart and often downright hilarious! This is a great book for the techno-nerds out there, but also for fans of fun cross-country capers. Very enjoyable!
This book is filled with humor, romance and so much more. I loved that you don’t need to be a computer geek to understand what is going on. Mr. Lindsey creates a story where you will feel like a silent character! There were times when I was freaked out and other times, when I laughed like a seal. My emotions ran high with this book because I never knew where Mr. Lindsey was going to take Guy, Spike, and me.
Climb into the mainframe and join the game. See if you can pass the test and retrieve the money. If you can, there is another quest for you to join. Good luck and God speed.
