Rae and her two children have lost Mike, her husband and their father, two short months ago and now it's Rae's birthday. How is she going to be able to carry on, it's so hard without Mike! Rae decides to make a cake! She was going to make the one her mother used to make for her but doesn't have all of the ingredients, so she makes a lemon one with chocolate icing. She steps outside and there's Dylan from work trying to catch a little boy. He has put down a box labeled "Kitchen" to try to catch the little guy, who he calls little bud. She reassures him that he and his sister are the best gifts she has. Over the next few months Rae and Dylan get to know each other better and start to rely on each other more and more, for the children. What happens next? A sweet but a little sad story about grief and love. It isn't a romance really but the love of Dylan is beautiful as he gives Rae exactly what she needs which is friendship. I understand why the author only wrote this part of the story and then wrote a continuation to fulfil the romance aspect of it but I still kinda wish it was all in one book. This book also deals with the love of a parent/caregiver to a child as well.

It is a very quick read. Only takes about an hour so it is perfect if you only have a little bit of reading time. Enjoy.

Will there be another more in-depth book? This was a fast read as much as an introduction.
