Scott, of 'A Gift of Family' by Tami Veldura, is a wonderful, loving father to his little girl, Lexi. He's completely dedicated to her care, especially since Scott and her mother are divorced and she isn't around. Scott is a good father, but when he sees other families out together, he can't help but wish he and Lexi could have what they have. Scott is just about given up hope when he meets Brennan.
After seeing Scott and his little girl at the park several times, Brennan decides he doesn't want to wait any longer to get to know them. He walks over with his dog, Jazz, to greet them. Lexi loves the dog; which proves to be a real ice breaker between him and Scott. They have an immediate attraction to each other. They begin to talk and since it's so near to Christmas, they talk about their holiday plans come up. Brennan begins to discuss his huge family and how their celebration will be chaos, but he wouldn't miss it. Sadly, Scott mentions that it will be just him and Lexi to celebrate. Brennan invites them to meet him at an upcoming Christmas Fair, which completely enthralls Lexi. Afterward, Brennan, not wanting them to celebrate alone, asks Scott and Lexi to join in his family's celebration. Scott, touched at Brennan's generosity, accepts his offer. The next morning, Scott is looking forward to being with Brennan again, but when he checks on Lexi, he finds that she's come down with a bad cold. With a heavy heart, he calls Brennan and tells him they won't be able to make it.
Tami has written a short, sweet, hot holiday story. I loved Scott and how he cared so much for his little girl, Lexi. Brennan was awesome too with his knowledge of children because of his big family. It was wonderful that he knew just what to do for Lexi as well as Scott. Thanks, Tammy.

I found this to be a fun and happy short story. I thought the pacing was almost perfect – Brennan and Scott take their time to get to know each other and considering the short length of the story I felt there was an excellent balance between the chemistry and foundations being laid, then a very satisfying consummation scene. The characters – including Lexie and Jazz – were well drawn and I was quite invested in the four of them coming together as a solid family very quickly.
The sex scene was spicy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really felt like Scott and Brennan were committing to each other and to the small family unit they were building together. While the story was set in Christmas, I wouldn’t personally classify it as a “Christmas” story since most of the focus was on the characters and the relationship they built. This didn’t bother me at all – I personally was reading for the story, so the setting wasn’t as important for me.
A well written, happy and sexy short story, I feel this was a great and satisfying read. I thoroughly enjoyed Scott and Brennan’s characters and can happily recommend this. I’ll be keeping an interested eye out for more books by this author and would definitely try them again.

While I did think this one went a little warp speed, it seemed to work okay with the Christmas theme with miracles happening and all that. Brennan was taking a walk with his dog in the park one day and saw Scott and his daughter Lexi playing. Interested, he went back the next day to try to make an approach. Not in a creepy way, it was cute and goodness knows I’ve done the same thing, only at a grocery story with a hot bag boy LOL Its cute and only slightly creepy but Brennan made up for it by at least acknowledging that fact. Bonus.
Scott is lonely but at least he has his daughter, with his parents gone and no relationship with Lexi’s mom, he was going to be alone on the holidays. After one cute date with Brennan, he gets invited to Christmas dinner with Brennan and his family though he’s not able to make it, of course Brennan brings Christmas to him.
The only thing I wasn’t big on, was their hookup, I mean kinda hot, but kinda cringy at the same time. I’m all for dirty talk, the dirtier the better but I just didn’t see Scott as the take charge kind of guy and I had to skim passed some of his…..foreplay. I think I even said, Bahhhh at one point lol
Still though, it was a very cute, very short insta-lovey romance. I wouldn’t mind reading more about this little family if there were ever another book about them. I just hope Scott tones it down a little in the bedroom, or at least works on his dirty talk.
4 stars from me!
