This book is about Hal de Montfort that was in book 7.
Hal is a Royal Guard that mainly guards the queen and her ladies.
King Richard needs him to carry a missive to some of his lords to gather their men because their were some Lords that were ready to take over ruling instead of King Richard. The two Lords and their men ran when faced with the other army. Hal stayed and the Earl of Derby stripped Hal of his armor, his horse and sword. He let him keep his baselard for protection. Hal starts walking home.
Now we meet Elinor Swan daughter of the Baron of Nelham. Her father was a cruel man and when Elinor’s mother died in childbirth her father told her to leave the castle and never come back. Jasper was the castle falconer and he took Elinor home and trained her to work with the falcons.
Sixteen years have passed since Elinor came to live with Jasper.
Now different things happen. The Baron dies, Elinor’s cousin is the new Baron. Nigel is nice but very weak ,his wife, Lady Rohesia is cruel and rules over Nigel.
Hal is still walking home when he sees two men attacking an older man. Hal helps but he is injured when one of the men had a knife. The other man breaks Hal’s leg with a log. Hal has just enough strength to kill the other man then passes out. Elinor was going to meet Jasper when she sees the bodies. Jasper died in the attack.
This was when Elinor and Hal kinda meet, though Hal is not fully conscience.
This story has so much more to it that it needs to be read and enjoyed.
The de Montfort family is a neat family to read about get to know. I hope that there will be book nine and it’s going to be about Nan!
Sir Hal is a Royal Guard in King Richard's court during a time of political turmoil. This time, Sir Hal is on the losing side and there are consequences that directly affect him. As he is returning home, doubting himself, he is injured badly and a beautiful angel who lives a simple life helps him. It warmed my heart to witness Hal's transformation to his real self. For a man who knows the true meaning of family love and internally has always longed for the same type of love his parents have... Could she be the one?
Elinor's whole story broke my heart. It truly overwhelmed me witnessing all she goes through. You cannot help but root that somewhere in the story there is a happy ending for her. This heroin deserves a happy ending!
Here we take a journey and witness love blossoming and how it can open up wounded Hearts.
I always enjoy revisiting the previous characters from this series. This author incorporates almost all of her previous characters in her stories that are within the series. As a reader I truly appreciate this because it keeps us ever-present and what is going on and their lives. My favorite characters of this entire series are Geoffrey and Merrin who are now in their 50s. They are the original hero and heroine of the series who are now in their early 50's. Family and love is ever present in this entire series.
As Hal heals, can these two heal each other from past hurts and go forward? There are many secrets held and adventure that make this a wonderful read. As I turned the last page, I could only sigh and wait for the next adventure in this great series! As always a keeper...
Our Hero and Heroine, Sir Hal de Montfort and Lady Elinor Swan are memorable, likeable, and real! They have vastly different backgrounds...Sir Hal grew up surrounded by a warm and loving family. Lady Elinor's childhood could be described as painfully lonely. Her companions were falcons, as she learned to care for, and train raptors. So many interesting facts about falcons and their training were described! GIFT OF HONOR, features rich historical detail, which I appreciate and enjoy.
Two strong leading characters share the spotlight in GIFT OF HONOR! Don't miss this journey of hope and healing for two amazing people who so deserve to find happiness and peace!
