Lalo Navarro comes onto the scene after his family makes a very generous contribution to Gina's "Miss Santa" program. In exchange for the contribution, he is going to help with the program so he can become known locally and get some publicity before he runs for office. This would be great except that Lalo's family's business has displaced families, as well as "Mom and Pop" businesses, including Gina's aunt and uncle's business, in the name of progress and development.
There's a spark between Gina and Lalo right from the beginning but hard heads and opposing views make a relationship nearly impossible. Another trademark of Ms. Mims' stories is a theme of family loyalty and there is no shortage in this one either.
A Gift of Hope is a lovely story and I enjoyed it very much.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
There is some very explicit sex. I truly enjoyed reading this book based on real events in San Antonio.
