Format: Paperback
This little book by Michael Paul Brown may appear to be on the surface a memoir from a son to a mother. And in many ways it is that - but it is so very much more. Even the most hardened reader of self-help books can fail to be not only touched and moved by the writing of Brown, but the transformation of self perception that comes after spending time reading and doing the exercises that the writer shares is strangely otherworldly. Brown happens to write very well (and it appears this is his first venture into the field of written communication), and that fact draws the attention of seasoned readers almost on the first page.

The premise is seemingly simple: as Brown's mother repeatedly told the at times unbelieving young man 'You are a gift to the world', it is now a time that Brown has internalized this message, transformed it into credibility, changed his life, and now offers the same assistance to those fortunate enough to happen upon this book. 'We create the experience of our reality through our thoughts, feelings and actions. We may think it's about attracting things outside of ourselves, but it's about the story we are telling ourselves about ourselves and about what is actually happening outside of us. These stories - and the words we are saying to ourselves in between our ears - create the way we experience reality.' '"The truth" is that the way we see, hear, and listen is a veil pulled over reality, which prevents us form actually seeing things as they really are.' Brown aids us in removing that veil with his warmly caring writing and support.

Michael Paul Brown urges us to look into that mirror that reflects our image and to tell that image that we are a gift to the world - then, believe it.

This was a wonderful heartfelt book, that I couldn't put down. You could feel the love the author and his mother had for one another as you read each page. With Mother's Day this weekend, it was nice to be reminded why I love my mother so much, and reflect on how she has helped shape me into the person I am today. She provided unconditional love and stood by me, even when I made mistakes. My mother believed in me and helped me at times face my fears and reach for the stars. I love that the author wrote such a powerful book and shared his love for his mother. Every mother is truly a gift, and after reading this book, you will treasure your mom even more and want to thank her all over again for helping you see how you too are a gift to the world.

Mike Brown's beloved mother continually said to him "You're a gift to the world". After her passing he decided to write this book and dedicate it to her.

In the book he explains to us that we are all gifts to the world. We were born into the world to bring "a very special and unique gift". Once we believe this, we will initiate a process that will reveal our purpose. There is only one of each of us and being ourselves we become the gift.

Mike describes his own process in finding and believing in himself, and accepting that what his Mum told him was true. Seldom have I read a more emotionally honest book. He doesn't conceal the problems or drawbacks he had in his life or personality.

He provides us with innumerable useful affirmations and exercises to work with and encourages us to visit his blog where we can receive a series of free recorded calls entitled "You are a gift to the world Tele-Workshop Series".

He shares touching stories about his Mum, who was a wonderful loving person, and a gifted poet (he quotes several of her poems). One can see from the photo on the front cover how Mike and his mother resemble each other! He also recounts meaningful incidents from his childhood and early life.

Christmas was a very special time for him as a child. He loved opening his presents and wrapping presents for the others in his family. But his joy in receiving the presents soon passed, and he felt empty inside. He looked for fulfilment outside himself, in a car, a girl-friend or whatever. This book is about his process in finding what he wanted inside himself.

Mike encourages us to recite the affirmations he presents out loud, like the following one:

"I am a gift to the world.

Mike Brown's book, You Are A Gift To The World, truly is a gift to the world. The way Brown's mother treated him, telling him that he was special, is amazing. It's been my observation, that people usually live up, or down, to our expectations. Thank goodness for mother's like Brown's who got it right.

Brown's story shines with the love he learned from his mother, and now he shines that light onto the rest of the world in his inspiring book. Besides telling his mother's story, Brown tells us all that we're special, and how to realize our own specialness. Quotes that give us a glimpse of our own light, head each chapter. Laid out in a progressive way, You Are A Gift leads us down the path of our own awakening, just as Mike's mother has shown him.

There are websites listed throughout the book, and at the end, where readers can partake of the community that Brown has set up. I see from Brown's bio that he's a life coach. No kidding. I feel more conscious just for having read his lovely book.

The kind of book you pick up when you're feeling down and need someone to tell you how special you are, just in case you don't have a mom as wonderful as Brown's obviously was.
