I will give book 2 a try, but if the victim continues to get blamed for the abuse, and continues to be abused, I am going to be very upset.
Personally I loved strong Briand—with each new adventure I saw her grow more steady and braver. She came from the streets but when given the chance she proves herself a treasured weapon against the most deadliest enemies. Truly a fantastic heroine!
Do what you need to do before you open the first page because all responsibility will fade from your brain after the first chapter. After all —isn’t that what masterpieces do? Capture your mind and heart until the last note is played.
Kael is a intelligent man who is trying to use his position as steward of the castle to hide his quest to achieve a greater goal. He takes on the task to keep Briand under control after her uncle tries to banish her. Briand threatens to ruin all that Kael and his underground group have worked for when she makes an unselfish sacrifice for her cousin, Bran. But like everything is Briand's life, her sacrifice backfires. Now she, and Kael's group of rebels, are stuck using an imperfect vessel for their rebellion.
I loved this book. Briand is a flawed character. She has selfish tendencies and is not respectable. It was great reading how the other characters interact with her. Kate Avery Ellison does not erase the prejudices people carry just because Briand is now everyone's key to success. It enhanced the plot. There was lots of action, plausible character development and an interesting plot.
