Why We Give ... will teach & inspire children of all ages. This book will teach children the true reason for the Christmas season. The main character, Evelyn, begins by introducing herself and then introduces her friends, one by one, and asks each one to share why she or he gives gifts to others at Christmas time. Evelyn concludes the book by explaining that she has learned to give gifts at Christmas and throughout the year because of Christ's example of freely giving the gift of salvation. readersfavorite.com/book-review/11980
From the Author
Corine Hyman is a clinical psychologist who has been helping families for close to 10 years. Currently, she lives in Baltimore, MD where she has opened her home to children without families by becoming a foster parent. The idea for Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time was placed in her heart many years ago. It is the first of many books that she plans on publishing that uses the Word of God to help children and adults understand the biblical bases for why Christians do what they do. Look for her upcoming book Godly Feelings. Godly Feelings is the first book in a larger series - What Christ's is Teaching About.

The children take turns sharing what they have learned about why they give gifts at Christmas time even though it’s Jesus’ birthday. Lessons include giving with a cheerful spirit, giving to people in need, and giving time as well as material gifts. Scripture verses on the pages show the Biblical principle behind the lesson each child shares. The Christmas story from the Bible, as told in the book of Luke, is printed in the back of the book as a handy reference.
This book will appeal to a diverse group of adults who want to help children develop a giving spirit. The lessons can be applied not only to Christmas but to giving throughout the year. Children who are looking for a story may miss the action of following characters through an adventure. However, they will enjoy seeing how the details of the illustrations tie together at the end of the book.

The principle of this book is to teach not only children but adults that gift giving is not only for Christmas but we should learn to give all year round. Learn to give your time to help those in need. Every page has a scripture at the bottom that will encourage the reader about giving.
I recommend this book for classroom teaching and anyone who has children to buy this book. This will help children understand the real meaning of Christmas.
FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.
Hyman includes reasons we would expect such as: it will please God,and it reminds us of God's gift to us. However, many reasons were simply repetitions of "it will please God" with a shift in how we should be presenting the gifts. I.E. with a cheerful spirit, we should share them with others, give to those who have less. I think that the title is to narrow for the material covered in the book and that something like "Christmas Gifts, a lesson in giving" would have been more appropriate. Still, that isn't enough to deter me from reading this with my daughter again this Christmas as the lessons included are a great reminder.
