Gig Posters Volume 1: Rock Show Art of the 21st Century Paperback – May 13, 2009

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 112 ratings

Since 2001, Gigposters.com has been the Internet's first and best resource for rock-show poster art; their massive online database showcases more than 90,000 posters from 7,000 different designers, including all of today's top poster studios. Gig Posters Volume I highlights the 700+ best examples in their collection, including 101 perforated and ready-to-hang posters for bands such as Radiohead, Wilco, the Decemberists, the Shins, Arcade Fire, Sleater-Kinney, and more. Among the many designers contributing to this collection are Rob Jones (of White Stripes fame), The Decoder Ring (house artists for Modest Mouse), Patent Pending, Tara McPherson, and more. Packaged in an oversized 11-by-14-inch paperback, Gig Posters Volume I is a spectacular compilation of rock show art (and one hell of a cheap way to decorate a dorm room or apartment).

Well it is IMHO. Got it yesterday and haven't been able to put it down. Simply put this book is fantastic and I was blown away. I bought it based on these other reviews as I hadn't seen a copy in real life. Glad I took the plunge.

I really like the way it is printed on nice, heavier stock and each page comes with perforations so you can tear out and display selected pieces as posters. It is a larger book (dimension-wise) and this lends itself well to the fact that it IS a poster book. Nothing worse than getting a new book on art posters or design and the like, only to find that the images are smaller than you'd like them to be and you miss out on great detail.

I'm often doing music and gig posters, so for me this is a great little asset for inspiration. It has a little write-up on each of the artists/creative studios with a website for each which is handy and personally always appreciated. I highly recommend this book. There is a wide range of artists and tons of stuff I haven't seen before.

There are something like 700 images and 100 rip out posters. I will now have to get a second copy so I can stick a few around the office and keep one for reference :)

My boyfriend (and pretty much everyone I showed this too before i gifted it) loved this book! It's bigger than I expected, but that's good because of the fact that you can take the posters out and hang them up (like my boyfriend is intending to do). All of the even pages have a full color gig poster that is each beautiful and the artist's comments about their work on the page opposite it are really interesting and fun! I loved this book and so did he!

I bought this book for my boyfriend who is an aspiring graphic designer, he is really into these kinds of books. This book has an amazing compilation of gig posters and each one keeps you interested for what will be on the next page. When I gave it to my boyfriend he looked through the book thoroughly and must have post-it noted ever page! I really recommend this book to anyone who is interested in these types of things or to anyone who is a designer looking for inspiration.

It is very cool book and some very creative posters in it. It will keep you busy looking at it for a while and when you look at it again and again you always seem to find something you missed. Also you have 101 posters that you can eaisly take out and frame if you want to. My only complaint is on a lot of the artist they seem to pick the more lame posters to enlarge and the just show you all the way cooler ones that you would rather have enlarged to frame.

I bought this book for a co-worker. He is one of those hard to buy for people. When I started thinking about how much of a music buff he was, and how eclectic his taste was this book became the obvious choice.
Of course I took a quick peek through it before I wrapped. I have to say I will be buying a copy for myself! There are some posters that are removable for framing and display but I think I will leave my book whole.
It's great to see posters from small to large venue shows.
Don't know what else to say, if you are a music fan of any genre this book is definitely for you!

Very cool book. I love the fact that I can pull out the posters and use them how I want. I've put a few in frames and they look great. Nice material on the artists in the book as well. I can't wait to get Volume 2!

Love this book -- wish that more of them for different genre's and times were available. Reading about the artists is great -- but the best part is picking out your favorite posters and framing them up. I love having all the reminders and memories hanging on the walls... especially now that the t-shirts are all worn out! :-)

If you're a lover of music and in particular american indie then i'm sure you'll love this book.
Lots of great rare and unusual posters which just go to show how much of a shame it is that the gig poster seems to be dying out.
The pages themselves are about A4 sized and come on perforated pages which make it easy to rip out any poster you wish to hang.
I have a few round my house and i could've picked loads.
The only shame is that by ripping pages out i'm left with less to leaf through when i pick up the book for a quick peruse.

Each page contained a full sized poster gig. A great book for people who love the art that is associated with old school concert posters. Lots of artwork from lots of top tier groups and artists!

A fantastic coffee table book, and a great resource for graphic artists.

Bellissimo, formato molto grande. Ottimo imballaggio. Libro arrivato in ottime condizioni. Soddisfatto. Acquistero' sicuramente anche il secondo Volume.
