I bought this motherboard only because it was one of the few who had Thunderbolt support and I needed to use my 27'' Apple Thunderbolt Display; it works perfectly well, but if you happen to install a discrete video card it will default output video to that one until you install the Intel HD graphics drivers; also you will have to install the VirtuMVP suite (which this motherboard supports natively) to take advantage of external GPU power through thunderbolt.

I'm very pleased with it so far, I only wished it came with built-in Wi-Fi, feels like such a basic feature should be standard with everything these days.

I have only owned this for a week. Windows 7 Professional does not support much of the chipset on a fresh install, so you will need to use the provided disc. I am probably one of the first to purchase this motherboard, but it came with the 2nd revision of the UEFI (the new type of BIOS), and the third revision is available for update at the time of this post (rev. F3). Although I am planning to overclock the Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 3570k, I have not gotten around to it yet. It does support higher clocked memory right out of the gate, so my purchase of the G.Skill 1866Mhz RAM was auto-enabled through the BIOS XMP profile, and confirmed through CPU-Z in Windows. I was surprised at the software bundles: You can turn on/tweak overclocking from inside your Windows 7 OS instead of backing out to your UEFI, 3TB hard drives are supported after running an update, you can software switch between integrated or discrete cards, control your mobo settings & OS through your iPhone, etc.

One major issue in Windows: two out of the six USB ports are controlled by the Intel chipset and are marked as "Keyboard/Mouse" inputs (the two USB ports directly under the Ethernet port). Although these two ports detect USB hubs and USB drives, they will not detect certain external hard drives or the iPhone. They are designed to be underpowered ports. Also, the other 4 USB ports are run by a VIA controller, which is unsupported by Apple OS X Mountain Lion. Another issue in Windows: upon first install, the audio from the Intel HD Audio would stutter every few seconds. The issue seemed to have resolved itself when I also noticed that the Realtek audio was set to 96000Hz instead of the standard CD-quality audio of 41000Hz; so fixing this setting might have helped.

This motherboard is fantastic. I bought it to upgrade an Asus that I had. My system is:
Intel Core i5 2500k
12gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz ram
32gb mSATA SSD (boot drive)
1TB Western Digital Data drive
Nvidia gtx 570

This motherboard is awesome. it is the first one I have owned that has a built in mSATA slot. I bought a small SSD and am using it as the boot drive, and it is awesome. The motherboard had no problem recognizing it on the first boot and it run perfectly every time.
There are plenty of SATA ports. It is worht noting that if you are using the mSATA port, the motherboard disables the sixth SATA port. So altogether, you can have 6 SATA devices/drives, not 7.
The BIOS is very user friendly. Nice and detailed and with a great GUI. Very easy to use.
The main feature of this motherboard is the 2 thunderbolt ports. I used the Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt Adapter (STAE121) on one of my SSD drives. It was not as fast as I wanted, but that is because it is not a true thunderbolt connection. The speed was bottlenecked by the SATA interface of the hard drive. However, even with that, I was consistently getting ~200 MB/s write and ~240 MB/s read (that's megabyte, not megabit). That is not as fast as a real thudnerbolt hard drive or SSD would perform, but it is still way faster than USB 3.0 and eSATA. The thunderbolt ports are fantastic.

Everything else about the motherboard is as you'd expect. It's a good consumer board with lots of ports and connections. And 2 thunderbolt ports. For a very reasonable price.

It was time to build myself a new computer. I knew I wanted a MB that would be compatible with Ivy bridge processor, be USB3.0, Sata6GB/s and easy for overclocking.
I had a very good prior experience with Gigabyte. I was previously using a E-58 Extreme. So I went with the GA-Z77X-UP4-TH.
I had no idea what a thunderbolt port is for but I was pleased with all the USB ports on the board, the HDMI integrated video card.
Anwyay... Here is what I like:
- Plenty of USB2 and USB3 ports.
- Solid board
- Video card integrated
- BIOS very easy to setup and dual boot for security.
- BIOS updates can be done from Windows.

What I do not like:
- USB3 ports not always backward compatible.
- Suddenly my Logitech G11 keyboard lose its functions while in use and I have to unplug and replug the Keyboard to remedy the issue.
- No COAX plug for audio output
- Only 6 Sata ports (4xSata2 + 2xSata3). Since I had more drives, I had to buy a PCI Sata card which does not always get recognized when booting cold.

Now all these glitches do not please me, by far... Yet the board still works and I can run my games at max resolution, overclock my 3770x Processor to 4.5GHz with cores running around 30c idle.

So I am definitely not going to undo everything and have to reinstall windows again to try another board.

In conclusion: If you plan on using thunderbolt, do not use more than 5 HD + 1DVD and do not use too many USB appliances, this board should be fine for you!
