Compared to some others you get optical jacks for both in and out with this model. You may only need one or the other but this has both. It seems to be compatible with most mother boards although the plug might not fit or you may have the pins in the wrong holes and might have to move them around to match the connections on the board.

Have this installed with my EVGA FTW3 motherboard, since it didn't come with its own optical port. It works great, and I didnt have to modify the pin-out at all! I connect my computer to a sweet surround system via optical and can play music, movies, or games with awesome sound!

I have been Building Computers for over 30 Years. In that time I have Built computers for my self, Friends and Customers. All of them have had Parts that just seem to not Work or just have Drivers or Software that Screw Every thing Up. Well this SPDIF from Gigabyte Worked the First time after I Plugged it in to the Mobo. Plus it doesn't hurt to have a MOBO from the Same Compnay as the SPDIF "" GIGABYTE "". I had to Configure the Computers Sound Card to tell it the SPDIF was there and that was it. I was pumping out 5.1 from the TOSLINK to my Home Stereo and it Sounded Great. So if any one that needs to have or wants to have SPDIF in and out of there Computer this would be a GREAT CHOICE to use. I also bought it on AMAZON and it took just 2 days to ship to my Home. It was also Sent "" USPS FIRST CLASS MAIL "" It also had a Scheduled Delivery date of from "" May 25, 2011 - May 31, 2011 "" and I got it on "" MAY 23, 2011 "" Even Before the Posted Days. That is why I'm Giving "" 3CWORLD "" and The POST OFFICE 5 Stars for Fast Service. They did it Right.

I received the item promptly, installed it in my computer (after checking the motherboard manual) and connected it to my Home theater receiver via coaxial cable. After configuring the digital input on the receiver, I now have Dolby Digital surround from the over-the-air TV programs I record in Media Center. All is good.

I received this adapter very quickly. The seller ships it First Class Mail, so arrival was quick! Installation was straight forward, as I was using a compatible Gigabyte motherboard. After plugging the digital out into my home theater receiver, I was able to have amazing DTS and Dolby Digital sound.
