First off. Great Job Gigabyte.
I found this system after extensive searching for an alternative to the Intel NUC and it's problems Bricking when Linux went to sleep. Leaving users forced to disable hibernation and some users still having the issue with hibernation disabled. The NUC problem is over 2 years old and still not resolved. The other alternative i considered was MSI's mini PC but there were too many reviews from dissatisfied users of MSI's mini pc all over the web.
Another alternative was the mint-box or another product from fit-PC but the common "running hot" issue with their fanless pc's was undesired. Plus, When I shop for a box I don't want it to come with an OS. I love Linux. I run different official flavors of Ubuntu and CentOS. I don't run Linux Mint. So the MintBox team lost me with the pre-formatted box leaving me to wounder if it was so finely tuned to Mint that it would require contacting support if I wanted to strip it and put a different version of Linux on it. And System76 lost me at the introductory price. If that's the best they can do they should have a professional come in and make their operation more cost efficient. Many other companies are doing a good job at providing mini-pc solutions at an affordable price. I know System76 can do better on the price and maintain quality but they didn't.
So I grabbed one of these systems from Gigabyte (which isn't advertised very well) and I love it.
Everything worked out of the box:
Wifi
Ethernet
Bluetooth (I didn't even realize it had Bluetooth when I purchased it)
I installed my RAM and SSD, hooked it up to my TV via HDMI, inserted my 3.0 flash drive with Ubuntu 16.04LTS, started the system and pressed 'Del' on keyboard, entered the bios, set it to boot from my flash drive first, from the OS choices I choose to use the Win8/10 version to see how well it could handle UFEI mode, saved settings and rebooted, and Ubuntu installation started as expected. The system does have a legacy option. This may be useful for Linux users with a distro that doesn't support UFEI yet. Under the OS Choices you will only see 2 options: Win7 or Win8/10.
There is a bios update available from their website from Jan 2016 for a "Modify DRAM compatibility issue" but I didn't bother to grab it because I'm using one of the recommended sticks.
I purchased this for the media room which will be a great test unit because it is the most used media pc in the house. If it works great, all of them will be replaced with these because they are smaller, quieter (all the other systems in the house are mid-tower) and just as powerful.
The first thing I did after playing around with the basics was connect a 1TB external HDD via USB and start playing HD movies, multi-tasking in LibreOffice and Searching the web...all at the same time. That's a common theme here...turn on the TV and start watching videos, then maybe start playing some music while doing some research on the web, then do some office stuff in LibreOffice, then switch to watching a movie. I even played videos from a external drive in 2 different video players and the web browser at the same time (not a likely use case here but I wanted to see what would happen). There was no lag, no hangups, everything remained snappy. I am very happy with this system and i look forward to more like it since every system in my house and every system I support outside of home are Linux so I'm always looking for great hardware that supports Linux out of the box.
Note, This is for the Core i3-6100U:
GB-BSi3H-6100 (rev. 1.0)
I'm using a Corsair 60GB 2.5 SSD
Crucial 8GB Single DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin 1.35V/1.5V Notebook Memory CT102464BF160B
Another Note:
I would like to get the word out about this because it is faster, cooler, and quieter than all my other mid tower custom built Linux mid-tower desktops and it's a fraction of the cost. This product is not advertised well and its cost and performance for Linux users is better than it's competition. I've never had such an easy task replacing a desktop. I don't enjoy building desktops because it takes my time away from programming. Researching video cards, compatible motherboards/cpu's etc is very time consuming for someone who spends most of their time on software. Now all I have to do is buy one of these, some RAM and a hard-drive if I don't already have one and I've got a super fast mini computer that supports multiple monitors for ~$300. Please check it out.

I messaged Gigabyte via their webpage, it took 4 days for them to reply, and their answer was "it seems like more related to operating system. Kindly confirm you use genuine and non-modified Windows operating system (OS)....... Meanwhile, because Windows 7 does not support inbox USB 3.0 driver, kindly use "Windows USB Installation Tool" to put the USB 3.0 driver in your bootable USB flash disk and try again."
I don't think he/she even read my initial message properly. I installed windows 7 successfully (I already has USB 3 driver integrated into my Windows 7 bootable USB), it just wouldn't load. And the other OS's I tried to install wouldn't load either.
Anyways after another 3 messages over a period of 2 1/2 weeks (each time it took 4 or 5 days for gigabyte support to reply) they finally raised an RMA.
As soon as I got the RMA number I sent it off to gigabyte. It has been with gigabyte for 4 weeks already.
I had a Intel NUC become faultly after using it for a month last year. They had it replaced with a new one within 10 days.
UPDATE - 6th sept:
I had the Brix returned to me after 4 weeks. It exhibits the same fault as what it had when I sent it in for repair. I very much doubt if they did anything. There is no information on the RMA to say what was done. So I have not had a working Brix for 2 months now.
UPDATE 2 - 26th sept:
After 19 days of back and forth with emails to Gigabyte support, they have finally raised another RMA so I can return it to get it fixed or replaced. I want it replaced as I don't have any confidence in Gigabyte repairs after the last one. Hopefully I will get a working PC back in a timely matter as its been 3 months tomorrow since I purchased this and not been able to use.
UPDATE 3 - 18th Oct.
I received the Brix back a couple of days ago. Was told it had been replaced by gigabyte support with a new unit. However this was untrue. I received the same one back again. Hoping for the best I again tried to install Windows 10 pro x64, again same fault, Windows boots off the USB stick, gets part way along install process, and reboots. I then tried Linux, Kubuntu 17.04 starts to load, gets to the GUI and reboots.
It is beyond a joke now. Purchased at end of June, sent to gigabyte twice, sent back faulty twice. Plus it has cost me alot of wasted time, and money (freight to gigabyte) for nothing.
