"From the very first page I was lost to the suspense, romance, thrills and chills of this intriguing story. In fact, I was so engrossed in the dramatic plot that I stayed up all night to finish the story. There was no way that I would be able to sleep without knowing how everything played out." - Sizzling Hot Books.com
"If you love a great mystery with a giant dose of steam and a beautiful love story, you will swoon over this novel!" - The Reading Cafe
"The Gilded Cuff was a dramatic, sexy, and suspenseful romance between two people drowning in survivor's guilt. Lauren Smith crafted an intriguing plot with strong secondary characters. Ms. Smith also created strong women who were brave and courageous; they were unwilling to sit on the sidelines while the men confronted the danger. the story is told in separate POV and it also turns back in time 25years earlier... Two twin boys, Fenn and Emery were kidnapped from their own home for almost 4 months, yet only one survived.. Emery, he is now 33 and is lost and runs the family business. He does not allow anyone to get real close to him.. He has a bodyguard, Hans and his computer kid, Cody - who he found that works for him (he was in foster system growing up and he and Fenn just clicked..) then there are Royce and Wes.. That is all that truly know him, he feels responsible for his brothers death. Fenn told Emery to run for help, but he did not want to leave him.. So for years he is half a man and shut down due to the guilt, until he meets a 'feisty' young lady, Sophie.. She is a journalist and also helps solve crime cases.. She wants to meet emery because she believes his life is still in danger.. She finds out he owns a BDSM club, the gilted cuff. Sophie attends the club one night and finds Emery... These two are on fire with HOT chemistry and this book has so much thrilling, mystery, Romance, and also some 'BDSM, kink' ... So, if you are ready for A lot of twists and surprises and clinching until the very end of the book.. This one will not fail.. .
If you're thinking this is another BDSM novel w/ clubs, whips and chains, then you are really missing out. The sex is not that often and what sex there is isn't very graphic. NO, this is more of a story of two people filling a void in each other that has been missing for years.
Mystery, love, drama, and a major cliffy. I highly recommend..I'm headed into book 2 next.
I did like the story. It was interesting but a little misleading. It made you believe the story was going to be about a BDSM or D/s relationship when it wasn't like that at all. I didn't see Emery as a Dom. He was possessive of Sophie at times but I don't think h e necessarily acted like a Dominant. The details about BDSM in the beginning of the book were spot on but that's as far as that part of the book went. The story about Sophie's friend being kidnapped I thought was a little repetitive throughout the story. The only reason I can think of for it is if something happens in a future book relating to her friend. There were a couple other things that kept getting repeated over and over again which kind of distracted yup away from the story. I did enjoy the story and curious to see the outcome in the last book.
