Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series Collection (Repackage/DVD)
Welcome to Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a charming, small and slightly off-center town known for green lawns, clapboard houses--and enough quirky characters to fill every hayride, parade and picnic for miles. It's here that we meet headstrong 32-year-old Lorelai Gilmore, who carves out a comfortable, warm, caffeine-filled life for herself and her equally willful teenage daughter, Rory. But when Rory's attention turns from dreams of private school and Harvard to thoughts of boys and adolescent self-reliance, single mom Lorelai begins noticing more of her own rebellious youth--only 16 years ago--in Rory.]]>

And that is when I fell head-over-heels in love with it, for this is the quirkiest, cutest, funniest display of love, family, and friendship to ever worm its way into my heart. With the leads of the angelic Alexis Bledel and the amazing Lauren Graham, we have the story of a mother and daughter duo living in the adorable New England (and tragically fictional) town of Star's Hollow.
The pilot begins with them being accidentally mistaken for sisters, and this leads into the history of the girls--Lorelei became pregnant at sixteen and ran away from her upper-class family. After daughter Rory is born, Lorelei manages to make a place for them in Star's Hollow and does quite all right for herself. Then a problem comes along--Lorelei is determined that Rory have the educational opportunities that never worked out for Lorelei, but when Rory is accepted into a prestigious private school, Lorelei cannot afford tuition. So she turns to her estranged parents, who offer to loan her the money as long as the girls visit every Friday night for dinner.
And those are the events that set the entire series in motion, a series that holds all things--first love, second chances, secret love, family, friendship, community, all the silly little things I cannot help but love. It's a story of family dynamics--if you consider a small, nosy community part of an evergrowing family.
This is definitely a girls' show, and I can see why it irritates so many. But I like the snappy, witty dialogue and the never-ceasing parade of pop culture references. I like the humor that is there even when things become more serious and dramatic. The show is always fresh, consistently funny, and exceedingly dynamic. It's the kind of show that pulls you in simply because you fall in love with its odd, quirky cast of characters. Small-town charm and all the sassy, sexy heart that comes with it.
And so, I was extremely pleased when I finally had the opportunity to save money by buying the whole set. The carrying-style case is adorable, and someone finally got smart about how to package a whole bunch of DVDs.
This is a series with episodes I can watch over and over again. My sisters and I constantly are reminded of Gilmoric incidents. I happily say this is one of my favorite shows.
