I really like the Gilmour 955 Gear Max Lopper. It is heavy enough to feel substantial, but not so heavy as to be cumbersome or tiresome. The 955 is rated to cut 2" branches, and I have no doubt that it would be up to task to cut material that large, but one would have to open the arms of the lopper so wide to get 2" material between the blades.....I don't know how most humans would then close the handles-the reach would be pretty great.

I have cut 1-1/4"-1-1/2" limbs with the 955 Gear Max lopper-no problem. The 955 is fun to use, and again, I appreciate the build quality of the unit. I compared it to the Fiskars 9154 which is a similar size and cutting capacity, and I sent the 9154 back to Amazon, because that Fiskars did not seem to be as heavy duty as the Gilmour 955.

One note of caution: If you have short arms this lopper may not be the best choice. To open the handles to near maximum on the 955 requires quite a reach!

Very light weight but seems to be very sturdy construction.
Cuts 1" to 2" branches easily.
For the larger branches, the handles do open very wide so it might be an issue for anyone under 5'6" or so.

These are absolute JUNK, the jaw broke on a limb that was 1 1/4 inches I ended up using my cheap pair from Home Depot, I would not recommend anyone buying these pieces of JUNK. Save your money and shop for another brand the jaw is cast aluminum and will not cut through anything thicker than one inch. In the left picture is the broken loppers, in the middle picture is the piece I was cutting, in the left picture is the small cheap pair of loppers that cut the limb.

Debated between 2 or 3 stars. While it cut quite well, the cutting blade appears to be too soft and damages easily. I used this alongside a Silky saw I purchased the same day, using the saw whenever it appeared that it might be too much to ask from the lopper. I thought I was being conservative in what I was asking of it, nonetheless, by the end of a two hour session of removing ivy and and branches from some overgrown trees the cutting blade was nicked and bent in a couple of spots. The other reservation I had about it was that it felt top heavy. I'm a fairly strong woman, but it wasn't that comfortable to use, and I believe it was a matter of the balance being off.

Surprised with ease and comfort of using the Gilmour Gear Max 955; was strongly considering other manufacturer's product until I read part there may be some difficulty when cutting branches large in diameter.
Was reluctant to cut anything larger than an 1/2 inch or so in diameter at first, but after first attempt, anything I placed in jaws of this lopper was easily cut in half without much effort.
Even branches that were larger than an inch, or so in diameter were cut with ease; you probably could get away with large pieces, but do consider using an chain saw if you have to open jaws as wide as they can possibly open.
Bad things happen with any product that it was not intended to do...!
Overall, a quality purchase, and the length of lopper was good so I would not have to bend, reach, or extend too far over the duration of trimming branches from felled tree, or just limbing(it that's the correct term...).

My husband had ten oleanders removed and used these loppers to cut the stems to four foot lengths and he said he had never used loppers that worked as easily as these. He recommends them to anyone that wants a clean cut and easy tool to use.

I don't write reviews but I just bought this Gilmore Gear Max 955 and used it in the yard this evening on some 2" branches. Piece of cake !!!
What the pictures don't show is the non-cutting blade has a nice curve to it on the cutting edge that easily holds branches in place.
I can see how a very short (small) person might have trouble opening the jaws for a 2" branch, but a regular or taller person shouldn't have any problem opening it wide at all. The gearing and arm length offers great leverage. I'm glad I bought this lopper.

Easily cuts much heavier saplings and branches than our long-handled lopping shears.
