Review

Ginger's Story captures the emotional bond between canine and human, often overlooked in healthy child development. And as a friend of Mark Stover, I found Ginger's connection with Mark to be heartwarming. --Guy F. Palumbo, Owner of Roscoe's Ranch

About the Author

Steven Wells is a writer who lives in Medina, Washington. After a career in technology he studied non-fiction writing at the University of Washington and published his first short story in the Seattle Post-Intelligener. He has also published several travel articles. Ginger's Story is his first book. When not with his dogs and daughter, Steve is also an aspiring wine maker and spends most harvests working with local wineries helping to coax grapes into the bottle. He enjoys most outdoor activities including running, hiking, skiing, and bicycling. "Ginger’s Story really captures the emotional bond between canine and human. The emotional development for a child that comes from caring for a dog is an aspect of dog ownership that is often overlooked. And as a friend of Mark Stover, I found Ginger’s connection with Mark to be heartwarming." – Guy F. Palumbo, Owner of Roscoe’s Ranch

Being a Golden "Mom" I had to read this. I was debating between a 3 and 4 star rating because the characterization and flow of the story was not as good as I would have liked. But it was a sweet story and only $0.99, so how can I complain about that

I was disappointed because though this book was everything the other five reviewers said it was... no one mentioned how short in length it was... it was like a 20 minute read... I know because my bus trip is 30 minutes long and I was done w/10 minutes to spare. I also think it should be better labeled as a 'junior book' ... but the story is heartwarming and being a fairly new owner of a Golden, I did learn a few things...

This story was heartwarming for me as a dog lover, but it did not go into much detail about the dog's experiences with the daughter in the story, which is what I was hoping for. A good story, just a little lacking in the depth of the story line.

First-time author Steve Wells has written a heart-warming tale about a family dog told from the animal's perspective. Every dog owner will recognize the highs and lows experienced by Ginger as she meets with her new master and mistress and copes with life on the leash. Recommended for fans of animal stories of all types.

Ginger's story is beautiful, but lacked the depth I expected...hence only 4 stars. Almost by accident, my husband & I "rescued" an "older Golden." Bo lived with us for 8 months before he succumbed to pancreatic cancer at age 12. Then came Sadie, our beautiful little one, already dealing with cancer, then my bestest friend, Bear (120 lbs of pure love) who, after a year with us, succumbed to a malignant tumor on his heart.

Now we have SaraBear, abused terribly & dropped off at a "high kill" pound with her 4 nursing puppies. She has been with us 4 years now & is about 8 yrs old. She has never lost her fear of loud noises, men, going thru a doorway, etc. But she is so much better...and Happy! All these are/were Goldens, and with stories of their own. So this story, while a beautiful story about Ginger, just doesn't capture the unbelievable and emotional friendship ties a Golden brings to its owner/friend. This story just lacks depth; it doesn't convey truly the bond that forms such a tight relationship.

So our Joy, comes from knowing that we gave/are giving these beautiful canine friends the best-albeit the last-years of their lives.

Ginger's Story was excellent, from a first time writer, told as if it were Miss Ginger talking. Loving Goldens myself and having had one too I just enjoyed the heart warming story of a beautiful dogs tale from birth, to entering her new family, showing a little girl how to recover love from a separated Mom and Dad situation. The father and daughter learning together how to attend to their dogs, doing things together that bought a whole new meaning to their own father/daughter relationship as well, just by having Ginger. Ginger's Story is written from the heart with tenderness as well as experience from that moment of living it. It imparts a warmth and happiness as the reader glides along to the end. Even though every thing comes to that final place the reader certainly doesn't cry as the writer felt a need to celebration rather than fall into a depressive state. That's what was very different about this lovely story. I smiled all the way through this book because Ginger was so well loved that even when that certain moment arose, one felt happy for her to continue her journey to the other side. It was thrilling to me that Mr. Wells had a big heart full of so much love, not only for Ginger of course but he is passionate in a good way about a lot of things that come up in life and he has a solid background to handle his daughter and his life with grace and responsibility. This is a excellent read for anyone. I most gladly read this to my own children as they request it often - We want to know what Ginger is doing, Mom. How can a mother decline. Its all good and charming. Thanks Mr. Steven Wells, get going with Your next book.

Steve Wells has written an endearing and loving book that both dog-lovers and others will truly enjoy. A memorable story, with a surprise ending that is both poignant and masterful in how it so touchingly brings everthing together.
