POSSIBLE SPOILERS: I had to deduct one star for the continuing story of the brooch. It was funny the first few books but now it is starting to get old and it is making both girls behave childishly. Breaking into each other's apartments to steal the brooch is one thing. But when Mel went behind her FBI-boyfriend's back to get the brooch from evidence - that's pushing it a bit. And now Mel is mad because Grey didn't tell her he is undercover on a case? I don't know anyone in the FBI, but I would imagine that they are probably fairly strict about who gets let in on undercover cases. When Mel confronted Hagan in the bar, not only was she jeopardizing Grey's case (which could jeopardize his job), but she was also putting his safety at risk. Hagan was on her list as possible murder suspects and if she blew Grey's cover he could be the next murder victim.
While I normally enjoy the antics of Mel and Caro, this time around Mel was immature and irresponsible. I hope she and Grey can find their way back together, but I think Mel is going to have to do some serious apologizing to make it up to him.
When Betty suggests that Melinda sponsor shirts for the local Dachshund Dash and set up a booth, it sounds like perfect advertisement for her pet boutique and a lot of fun. Of course things never turn out as they should. Melinda spends more time trying to keep Betty out of trouble, and trying to discover who is murdering people at the not so fun races than she does in her booth. That would be bad enough but Grey shows up and their relationship appears to be in jeopardy, that stupid broach.
I can't wait to see Caro's book and wonder if we will find out more about that contentious and ugly piece of jewelry.
If you like mysteries and love your dog(s) you will like this series.
I can't wait for the next one!
