Then why is Tatum miserable? If Zack figures out how far along she is, he’ll realize he’s not the father. When Tatum breaks the news moments later, Zach promises it makes no difference to him that he’s not the father. He’ll support Tatum and the baby no matter what.
Zach needs Tatum and her baby to break free from the mob’s tentacles that are drowning Zach and his family’s lives in St. Louis. With marriage to Tatum and the upcoming birth of Tatum’s baby, Zach will inherit a vineyard in Italy, his ticket out of a future that leads nowhere.
At first, Tatum is charmed by Zach’s chivalry. But his controlling nature breaks through his carefully crafted persona, and Tatum realizes a future with Zach is anything but rosy.
Tatum is a courageous young woman who makes bad decisions after bad decision. When Zach continues to shut her out of his life, Tatum finally breaks free and follows her conscience-she tells the baby’s father, her old boyfriend, Nigel, about her pregnancy.
Instead of turning a cold shoulder as Zach predicts, Nigel turns into the perfect partner and the perfect dad-to-be. There’s only one catch-Nigel is a college freshman and Tatum is still in high school. Zach sees an opening and takes it. He worms his way into Tatum’s life even more, and is there in the delivery room when Tatum delivers her daughter by emergency c-section. Poor Nigel can’t attend as he’s swamped in finals.
Tatum continues to see the dangerous layers of Zach’s controlling personality and makes a decision that will impact her and her baby’s future forever. I don’t want to go into more detail, as this is an important turning point for her character. But as a reader, I couldn’t help but cheer her on.
I normally don’t read YA, but I was intrigued by the premise and bought the book.
Roos has a wonderful voice and her writing is both enjoyable and suspenseful. I could easily see and understand Tatum’s decisions. Highly entertaining and thought provoking, this story is one I can easily recommend. Though this is the second book in the series, I had no problem reading it as a standalone.
As the series opens we meet Tatum and Zach who are high school classmates. Zach is from a large Italian family who has already has big plans for Zach’s future. In the conclusion we learn Tatum has a very big secret and an even bigger decision to make. Tatum is DETERMINED to make the right decision that will influence her life today and in the future.
Ultimately, we learn our choices are ours to make, and in doing so, we must live with the consequences. Though Tatum’s parents are difficult and not supportive over all she is lucky to have other adult influences in her life that help her make some key decisions. She also has friends who are strong and supportive. As in the first books Nigel is an integral part of the final book in the series.
The book is beautifully written, gives great life advice and gives some glimpse of St. Louis is days past. It's a story that will linger in your mind as a parent for a very long time. 5 stars for this coming of age book by Author Suzie T. Roos.
The triangle of Tatum, Zach, and Nigel is filled with love and heartache. Ms. Roos’ multidimensional characters are totally believable. They are likeable but they have their flaws. Tatum’s mother isn’t thrilled with the baby news. Zach’s family is. This baby provides them a way to leave the life style they have. But life, even in novels, seldom runs smoothly.
Tension continues to build until the last page is turned, bringing questionable closure to Tatum and Zach’s troubled relationship, yet leaves this reader wanting more.
This is a great read! Suzie T Roos delivers another-stay-up-all-night read filled with plot twists—one bringing tragedy; another, fear.
The Spoken For Series is one which leaves a lasting impression on readers. And this reader is ready to read them again!
“I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.”
