Really felt for the characters

I'm not quite old enough to remember all of the times talked about in this book. I remember the late 50s, 60s and the civil rights movement. The book was a little heavy-handed over the race issue I thought, but it made the point. The last chapter was a tear jerker though. It made me want it to go on longer.
