About the Author
Girl Gone Greek is Rebecca Hall’s debut Contemporary Women’s Fiction Novel. After extensive global travels, Rebecca left the UK to return to the country she fell in love with—Greece, where she teaches English, writes and wryly observes that the chaotic nature of her adopted country actually suits her personality very well. All travel experiences, & particularly living in versatile cultures, have helped to shape who she is today. She is a Rough Guide co-author (Greece and The Greek Islands) and has contributed to numerous publications including Apollo Business Class Magazine for Cyprus Airways and Let’s Go for RyanAir, the Daily Telegraph Travel Section and her container ship voyage from Athens to Hong Kong caught the eye of NPR National Radio in the United States, where she was interviewed twice. When not writing, you’ll usually find her drinking coffee with friends, or sourcing a new place to eat baklava. Follow her adventures at: www.lifebeyondbordersblog.com www.facebook.com/LifeBeyondBordersBlog www.twitter.com/BeyondBex www.instagram.com/BeyondBex Rebecca now divides her time between her beloved Greece and her home country of the UK, which she's grown to view with new eyes and new appreciation due to her travels.

When I look carefully
I see the nazuna blooming
By the hedge!
The poet sees a little flower as it grows and is delighted with his encounter (indicated by the untranslatable Japanese character rendered as an exclamation point).
Girl Gone Greek is Rebecca Hall’s Bash'esque haiku. It is about recognition of and delight in the “ordinary” that Important, Busy people often pass by. You will not find leaps off towering cliffs wearing a wingsuit, or high-speed car chases, or steamy sensuality here, but that is OK. Most of life is not like that. What you will find is real people in real encounters, and the magic that emerges in the meeting of different minds.
So stars for Rachel for opening her eyes (and ours) to the nazunas all around us. Stars for her refusal to allow her sister (or society) to cramp her into something she is not. Stars for her love for and creative teaching of her Greek students. Stars to the author for this her first novel. But no stars for whoever did the final formatting, and inserted paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences (a problem that I am told is being corrected).
Congrats on a successful "first". To have the slight criticism that I wish some moments were more fleshed out and some sections longer, is probably more a criticism of the editing. Clearly, the author handles detail and paints pictures well so, if a section makes me long for more, it was probably cut.
Leaving me wanting is better than leaving me yawning !!
