Please don't get me wrong, I liked the book and actually went to bed last night wanting to find out how the story would go on, but this book was emotionally draining, sometimes exasperating and sometimes simply frustating for me....
I love to read and I like books were there is a emotional rollercoaster romance,a hot and cold relationship, the ocasional I want to slap the lights out of you character. It makes reading fun and kind of carries you to parallel fantasy world, where your own personal drama is nothing compared to the one you are reading... but Chrissie and Alan's tormented romance was overwhelming and just plain wrong!
I mean I get that the characters where emotionally scar and that is the beauty of the story was that they would rescue each other, I love a sexy guys who need to be rescue don't get me wrong, but sometimes Alan was a rude, narcissistic, egocentric excuse for a human being that just made me want to hate and slap him hard! And with Chrissie, talk about very low self-esteem and no self respect! I mean a guy does half the stupid thing Alan did to her and no matter how much I love that guy or who the hell he is, I am out of there as fast as a bat out of hell!
Anyway, what I had most trouble with the story was that it felt we went forward three steps, and Alan finally is opening up, realizing he is a human being after all, and Chrissie is still broken down but on her way and wham! they fight, they scream, insult and screw each other and we are back at square one over and over all though out the story.
There's a song from Katy Perry that I think was written specially for this couple and that's I'll keep thinking as I finally finished reading this book today........
There's part two and three coming up, but I just don't know right know if Alan deserves my time of day.....

I had downloaded The Girl on the Half Shell many months ago, but just got around to reading it. The reason I mention this is because when I downloaded it, it was a 2 book series. It’s been a long time so I could be wrong, but I’m quite certain there was no indication it was going to be a 4 book series -- and that they were all dependent books. Had I known this, I likely wouldn’t have started it. I don’t usually like to read such a long series, and now that I’ve read the first one I can’t imagine dragging this story on for 3 more books.

In general, the story wasn’t horrible. It was not unique, but it wasn’t horrible. I guess part of it is that I’m just getting tired of the story arc where we have the insecure, naive girl being controlled by an arrogant, self-absorbed guy. But it’s OK because he’s hot and he bathes her. And he tells her he loves her. That’s all that matters, right? Some readers obviously love this overused plot, but I must not be one of them.

It should also be stated that this book has a lot of sexually graphic scenes. I don’t have an issue with this, and I’ve read -- and enjoyed -- many books that have a lot more hot and heavy sex scenes than this book has. The thing is that I didn’t expect it. There is no mention of it in the synopsis and maybe it’s the ‘innocent’ looking cover as well. I just feel like this should be pointed out for the reader who doesn’t like to read books with a lot of graphic sexual content.

The main disappointment I had with this book was the writing itself. Many times the dialogue felt random and difficult to follow. There were a few points where one of the characters would say that the other was hard to follow, so maybe this was the author’s intention. I just didn’t like experiencing it as a reader throughout the book.

God, I loved this book. This is not a typical romance, not by a long shot. I was drawn in right from the beginning by the poetic language. This author can turn a phrase. But, more than beautiful phrasing, her characters won my heart.

Upon first glance, Crissie Parker lives in a Gatsbyesque-rich-and-famous-behaving-badly world. She and her friend seem to be spoiled brats. However, succinctly timed revelations take the reader deeper into her psyche and that of Alan Manzone, the hot and troubled rock star that she loves. The result is gut-wrenching and emotionally charged reading. I occasionally had to break for 10 or 15 just to process and remember to breathe.

This is one of those books that will stay with me for a long time. It’s less of reading a book and more of an emotional journey. There is something very beautiful in its raw and dark complexity. I will absolutely read more from Susan Ward.

Chrissie has hard time opening up to other's. She puts up this front that her life is perfect and actually it is far from it. She will be graduating and beginning her new life. She has worked hard trying to get into Julliard to follow in her mother's footsteps. She feels unsure of what her future holds.

She goes home to spend some time with her dad before going to her audition in New York. While she is there she meets Alan a rockstar musician with a troubled past.

Can they help each other heal from there past? What will they learn from the experience? What will there future hold?

I enjoyed this story. When it started out I thought Chrissie was spoiled brat but we soon learn there is so much more to her. During the story, We learn about her past and how her experiences have shaped her into the woman she is now. It takes Alan to be able to connect to her in such away for her to open up to him. We also learn about his past through this journey. I could not help but to fall in love with these character's. The story had me drawn in and felt like I was on this journey with them. I did not want to set down my kindle but had to when it ended.

I am excited to read what happens in the next book of this series.
