The book's conclusion is so irritating that I almost disregarded the good this book offers. Once again, a text is created with no independent story within the publication; instead, the book creates characters and provides a setting with background information for a conclusion that will undoubtedly be available in the final installment of the book. While this book was free, the imagination and creativity within its pages are almost forgotten when the last page is turned with no resolution to any primary story line within this initial installment of the saga. The author provides good, interesting characters together with a story and dynamic personalities that could be more appropriately lauded should the tale have had at least one story line where the reader thinks, "Well, that was worth the reading." Instead, the conclusion compels one to either read the next installment, or more, at cost, to learn whether the author provides a complete tale that has value beyond an inconclusive plot line colorfully detailed along the way. While the story line, thus far, is good, and there are numerous needs for grammatical editing, the author has forced me to buy another book in order to learn all these things that should have had at least one story line completed in this first book. A good, incomplete story line involving nebulous fealty to long-time friends and short-time acquaintances, magical events being played by characters whose motives are questionable, and families being torn apart by murderous acts within a setting of war against innocents, while needing grammatical editing, influenced enough of my interest to entice me to buy that second installment--a feat that has rarely occurred with similarly poor conclusion.

I really wanted to like this book. Where was the editing. The writing is so uneven; the sense of time is so poorly presented; the heroine is too thin. I loved some of the figurative language, but it was too occasional. I wanted to like the story, but it was too convoluted on one hand and too thin on the other. Editor, Editor, where art thou?

I never had a strong desire to pick up a fantasy book in the past, however, a few friends recommended Stadlers series to me saying that the books were tough to put down. Let's be honest, I don't have the longest attention span in the world. If you don't grab my interest in the first 20 pages, I put the kindle down and finish washing dishes... But, I have to say, the dishes had to wait on this one!! William Stadler has nailed intrigue, excitement, and emotion with this series; especially The Girl with the Scar. I will be patiently (or not patiently) waiting for more from this author! Highly Recommended! :)

Well all I can say is I did manage to get through the book because I kept hoping something would happen. However, it never happened and I sit here knowing there is no way I would ever want to continue the series.

I gave this book 2 stars because it was not terrible, but that is as best to a compliment as I can find in myself to give it. Eva, the main character, is one of the whiniest characters I have come across to date, and I am an avid reader. This could have been forgiven if not for her constant changing of opinion. Also, there should be more time line breaks..not ending the paragraph in one scene and jumping on to the next one and leaving the reader confused about the story line.

I could not put this book down, the writing flowed from chapter to chapter keeping me intriqued about why this girl was being hunted by the Kings raiders! It keeps you guessing and trying to figure out what is it that the king wants her for, why she was kept in the dark by her family Then your get throw a curve just as you think you know you don't know at all. It just makes you turn page after page till you get to the end. Can't wait to read more of William Stadler's work.

I really had high hopes for this book. The premise sounded great and it started out great but about halfway through, I started to lose interest. I got this book not realizing it was fantasy (which isn't what I normally read). But, I was willing to give it a chance, you never know, right? It is well written and the characters are fleshed out nicely. I just couldn't get into it. If you like fantasy, it is worth a read.

This was about the most schizophrenic beginning to a book as I have ever read. I am not sure if it is a true look into the mind of a woman, or if it was just trying to describe a pinball machine. In a short time, the author actually does a good job of describing the growth of an innocent character, to a warrior. Good job, and a fun read. Enjoyable, and delightfully free of smut.

A dark Mystery with hidden Depths

As always, William Stadler manages to draw his readers into his dark world with the first paragraph and doesn't let go until the final page is turned. Genevieve's fate impacts on so many, how can one young girl cope with so much pressure? When the whole world seems against us, we have to dig deep into our own resources and discover who we really are. More than the typical coming of age story, The Girl with the Scar, is thought-provoking and well-structured. I'd recommend it to all who like their reluctant heroines turn a leaf and become the woman they were meant to be.
