About the Author
Valeisha Butterfield Jones, the award winning entertainment executive turned White House political appointee, left her rural upbringing in North Carolina to pursue the career of her dreams and succeeded, but not before coming to terms with the harsh realities of working in a glamorous business with a ruthless and sometimes dehumanizing underside. Upon entering the flashing lights of New York City, Valeisha immersed herself in entertainment culture. The daughter of two elected officials, Valeisha moved to the music and fashion capital of the world to establish a brand for herself outside her parents shadow. After several unpaid internships, her career took off earning her the respect of industry leaders and young women worldwide. In 2009, she was appointed to the Obama Administration and eventually earned the role of National Youth Vote Director to President Barack Obama's 2012 reelection campaign. She has been recognized as a top leader under 40 years of age by ESSENCE Magazine, EBONY Magazine and The Root 100 and has been profiled in Marie Claire Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Uptown Magazine and others. Valeisha is also the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN), a non-profit coalition of women and men committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society. Valeisha's career has surpassed racial, cultural and gender barriers and she shares with readers her blueprint for success in the most honest and forthright style ever written by a young woman professional.
