The book had several aspects of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" which I found charming but at the end, missed the understanding of being able to be someone else besides yourself. The main issue is that Asher, our hero, deserved a better story. At times he was completely clueless and almost stupid on the situations presented to him. Along with our female lead, she had her moments of stupidity as well which frustrated me as a reader. The author is way better than this. I wondered when reading this book what feedback her betas gave to her...I would have told her to start over with this story. It just didn't work. The roommate sub-story was out of place, the costume the main female character wore was unrealistic, the subplot about Asher's father was not necessary...the reasoning why the band could not have a female drummer would not fly...it's 2015 not 1915. I believe she was working and running ideas through another author and I wondered as well if that affected this story.
One a good note, there is a plot twist I didn't see that dealt with Mason, the first Forbidden Man, which sets up the next few books nicely. Let's hope that the next Forbidden Man that has his turn to tell his tale will have a better story to tell.
Sticks and Asher form a bond and become great friends. Remy learns so many things about Asher while acting as Sticks, and the more she learns the harder she falls. I absolutely loved this plot twist. I just enjoyed seeing Asher and Remy build a friendship first. I also loved how Asher confided in Remy about his mystery girl, her.
I was on the edge of my seat just waiting on Remy to get caught and kind of hoping she would. I wanted Asher to learn the truth and see things unfold from there. I love how Linda incorporated Asher meeting Remy the girl and becoming friends with Sticks. It was unique and despite the story being long it just worked and they read super fast.
As I said I loved this twist on forbidden love, I just wish there had been more time with them together. Remy and Asher were the perfect pair and just learning little things throughout the story I knew they would be perfect once they finally learned the truth. After finishing I was just wishing for more time of them actually knowing each other as Remy and Asher, not Sticks or Elisa.
I am a huge fan of this series and have fallen so in love with these characters. I have been dying to know Asher’s story and read about his forbidden romance. I wasn’t sure the direction Linda would take, but I have to say I loved the plot! I loved seeing Pick and Asher get to know each other and build a bond. I loved seeing the other guys and camaraderie between them. This is one of those series I never want to see end. The books are fun, sweet, sexy and always forbidden.
From book 5, A Perfect Ten, Asher has seen Remy before, many months ago, but not up close enough to remember the details of her face or voice. He hasn't forgotten her, though. In the meantime, Asher has seen all of the bartenders at Forbidden pair up with other women and live out their HEA. Asher himself occupies his time with his band and working. He's always been a loner and his greatest desire is to be loved and to belong to someone, particularly within a family. Asher discovers he has a family connection, but is at odds with it because just as easily as he could be accepted, he could also be rejected, so Asher chooses to stay at arm's length for now.
Remy has always felt like a failure in everything. She's been turned away from many people in her life so to be a drummer in a band with so much potential feels like a major accomplishment. Remy has dated a lead singer in the past, so she's surprised that Asher acts nothing like what a stereotypical lead singer does. Instead, she finds herself drawn to him and they strike up a friendship. There are some hilarious parts with Remy trying to act and talk like a guy when she's around the band and Asher's friends.
While the storyline of Remy dressing up like a guy and actually being able to pull it off is a bit of a stretch, it works in this book, and she's so funny about it, too. She and Asher get to know each other and they really get one another deep down inside. All of the characters from the previous books are present in this one, particularly Pick, who is one of my favorites. However, Asher doesn't know Remy's secret and when he does, he will have to determine if he really knew Remy at all or if it was just a big deception. I liked the development of Asher and Remy's characters, they had a strong dynamic and were both lovable. The story flowed well overall. Great addition to the series!
