This is a kick *ss story (literally) highly reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only in this case we have Allie, the Demon Hunter and her incredibly loyal (and somewhat bloodthirsty) group of friends. Allie is a bit of an enigma and that makes her an interesting character. I never quite got a handle on her but that was ok - it made her unpredictable.

The Demon Lords built Las Vegas (hmmm...some symbolism there maybe?!) and rule over it with an iron fist and it happens to be where Allie and her friends live. Of course, there are all kinds of complications, side deals, secrets and threats and Allie has to carefully navigate through all of it and stay alive in the process. However, it is really the supporting characters that make this story fly even though several of them remain underdeveloped and we never really learn a lot about their backgrounds, especially my favorites, Ace and Shooter. Then there is Jenny, the computer hacker and expert forger; Father H, Allie's legal guardian, friend and mentor; Peter, The Lust Demon Lord who may or may not be a friend (sorry, no "lusty" moments in this story), Pancake, the loyal part hell hound who saves the day more than once and Max, the Guardian who unexpectantly crashes into Allie's life and turns it inside out. There are also the nasty Demon Lords especially Peaches, Mateo and Camilla who don't play very nice with the other kids.

The relationship between Allie and Max was a bit uninspiring and the one "romantic" moment didn't feel believeable, but perhaps that will change in the next book. There was so much going on that there really wasn't time to devote to that aspect of their relationship anyway. It made more sense for them to be at odds - and at odds they were! There are some feisty moments between these two.

Another great one by Miles. She has an easy-to-read style combined with an intricately spun plot. She creates mental imagery with ease and throws in enough tongue-in-cheek side comments to really engage the reader.

Kudos, Miles -- keep 'em coming!

I liked it. The protagonist is complicated and feisty and the supporting characters fully developed. I would love
to see more in what is obviously going to be a series. Hopefully going to be a series, I mean.

I got this as a free kindle book, and I was a little bit of amazed that after the first chapter I could not put the book down!
I really liked how fast paced the book was, there was always something new that was being added to the plot. The characters were funny, and the heroine was not your average little scared and insecure girl. Allie was a "Wonder-kid" :)!
If you like Demon/Angel lore with just a laid back story line I would highly recommend this book. Especially to young adult readers.
Witty writing Emily Miles ! :D

I read to escape into another world. Emily Miles has allowed me this indulgence twice now. In A Girl's Guide to Demon Hunting, Ms. Miles has created a supernatural world of demons and demon hunters inside of Sin City.

Allie, our heroine, is a demon hunter/guardian with some angel blood to giver her super-human powers. She and her friends are on the inside track of Vegas and know that demons walk among us as humans. There are seven demon lords (one for each of the seven deadly sins) and each lord has it's own loyal followers. When a demon hunter turns up missing Allie and her "scooby gang" join in on the search with some other guardians from The Council.

Allie is a lovable rebel who disregards rules, regulations and authority on a daily basis. She redeems herself because she does all of these things to protect those she loves. Breaking the rules, however, leads to lots of secrets, from The Council and her friends. Ms Miles does a good job of making you feel Allie's inner-conflict.

This book is action-packed, well written, oftentimes moving and funny too. I "LOL'd" at the one-liners and Allie's smart-a** comments. I recommend this for readers of all walks and ages.

I can't wait for the next book!

This was a great book. It was well written, engaging, entertaining, and fun. I loved the story and the characters, and the author's sense of humore is awesome. I would give it a 4.5 based on some minor editing issues that distract just a little from the story. Even given that, I am eagerly anticipating the next book from this author.

I picked this one up thinking it was going to be a short funny read on demons. What I got was so much more. It still had it's funny moments. Allie was a great MC, I wish more MCs were like her, she could kickass, take it like a champ and was still compassionate and caring, and most of all she was SMART. She made plans and got things done. Not that they usually went to the crappers because of unseen circumstances, but she always had a Plan B. She did have a bit of an anger issue, but it's not like they were merited.

I liked the dynamics between the group, I even liked the bit of romance that was going on. Definitely enjoyed the action scenes, which there were quite a few of, with Allie's snide commentary going on.

Even though this book deals with demons, which means it should come with angels, it wasn't really mentioned except for the start and that was it. Speaking of which, I still don't get the importance of the Prologue or the Epilogue for that matter. All I know is, there are some twists to come and some serious crap going down in the books to come. Needless to say I will be definitely be following this series.
