About the Author

Michelle Hope is an award-winning public speaker and educator of human sexuality and development. Over the past 10 years, Michelle she has delivered lectures across the country, while simultaneously developing and implementing dynamic and creative sex-ed programming for youth and practitioners who serve youth communities. With a master’s degree in human development, as well as extensive post-graduate training in sexuality, Michelle is currently an active member of O.School and Women of Sex Tech, both leading the discussion on sexual education in technology. Congruently, she is active in the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Community Engagement Group at the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.

Positive and Affirmative for young girls. I really liked the tone and quality of information in this book. I thought it spoke to girls becoming women and answered the basic questions that we all ask. It is well written, with appropriate suggestions for asking trusted adults in their life for assistance with life decisions and advice. I especially like the sections regarding issues around sexual orientation, and mental illness. It covers these previously taboo topic without judgement or condemnation. The medically accurate diagrams and explanations help convey the basics of female biology in a language that is understandable for girls and women of all ages.

I would encourage all parents of young girls to read it and share it with their child. It is an honest, straightforward book that speaks directly to young girls as they become women. This book would have been helpful when I was growing up and would have helped me as my daughter was going through puberty.

They deserve to know the reality of the world they exist in. No shame needed. Sex is a wonderful part of life. This book answers questions in a way that helps our children understand how to handle their situations in positive ways that it helps the prepared for. It involves parents too as it frequently encourages children to talk to their trusted, knowledgeable adult...you. Excellent resource for honest, open and absolutely accurate answers to questions on Puberty, Relationships, and Growing Up.
