4.0 out of 5 stars Strap Solution
By peterc on August 29, 2014
As others have noted, the strap design is truly terrible.
So here is a really quick simple way to fix it:

Reroute the back strap so that it does not wrap around the plastic arms on the sides. The reason the straps lie perpendicular to the head is because they angle themselves around those plastic arms. By removing that angle, the straps are still not perfectly flat against my face, but significantly better. I'll post an image as demonstration

As for the rest of the helmet, it's definitely better than the cheap helmets I have owned in the past in terms of weight and airflow, though I don't have much to compare it against.

3.0 out of 5 stars My third Giro helmet and I can see the same weakness, and Update on replacement parts.
By F B. on August 10, 2018
This it the third Giro helmet I have bought. I like the style, fit and airflow. All three had the Roc Loc feature that allows adjustment of the fit using a ratcheted strap inside the helmet. The problem is that the plastic strip used to fit the helmet is extremely thin. On the first two helmets, they eventually broke (see picture). The helmet can still be worn with the strap broken, but the fit adjustment feature is lost. Admittedly I got years of service out of each, but maybe this is a Planned Obsolescence ploy on Giro's part.

Update: Since writing this review I discovered that it is possible to buy third-party replacements for the Roc Loc mechanism for about $10 plus shipping. My older helmets use the Roc Loc 4 system, and I still have them, so I just bought replacement mechanisms for both (from Amazon). Reviews say they are made out of sturdier plastic than the originals. Don't know exactly what I will do with three helmets, as I only have the one head.
