About the Author
Danielle Esplin studied Food Science with Chemistry at the University of Stellenbosch. She had a full-ride scholarship and was one of the top students. After three years of sleepless nights in the library and endless experiments in the laboratory, she realized that something was missing. And that was writing fiction. Without telling anyone, she packed her bags, waved her twin sister good-bye, trudged down the street and got on a bus to leave the country. When she crossed the border and entered Namibia, she switched her phone on and sent her mother a text. "I dropped out of University," she wrote and never looked back. In Namibia, among the countless dunes that appeared like a half-closed girdle nestling the everlasting sea, her desire to write surfaced. Ever since she has been pursuing her dream to become a full-time writer. Danielle also loves to travel, and she writes about her adventures on her blog www.exploringmyplanet.com. Today she lives with her husband in Seattle. In her spare time, she likes to sing, read or spend time with family and friends. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The writer skillfully introduces a cast of characters in to the story - an au pair named Lexy, Lorraine has has an eight month old son Samuel, and an angry 16 year old son. Logan, and an ex-husband Craig. This writer has an amazing way of bringing you right into the family Dynamic and setting up mystery and intrigue that makes the reader anxious and excited to turn the next page.
Sadly, there has been a strange accident and Lorraine is in the hospital atop her existing cancer treatments and defining prognosis. And Logan and Lexy have gone missing. The writer sets the stage for a haunting mystery to unfold. Where are Lexy and Logan? How much longer will Lorraine live? The writer also adds emotional texture to the intrigue as complicated relationships are brought to light as to how they have defined and shaped some of the main characters lives. There are many facets of the past and present that influence the mystery of Lexy and Logan’s disappearance. And the tragic under current of Lorraine’s brain cancer shadows the story line from every angle. The intensity of the investigation of what happened to Lexi and Logan continues with new information and heightened anticipation as the possibilities of who did it unfold. This writer has an amazing way of keeping her readers on the edge of their seats as they wait for the next new twist to add to the haunting investigation. The outcomes are frightening and unsettling at best. Every possible suspect is explored as the truth is revealed, or is it? Excellent writing of suspense, surprise, tragedy, lies and secrets, loss and deceptions of mammoth proportion. A must read!!
I will say that with all the twists and turns, I honestly could not guess as to who may or may not have committed any of the crimes.. it was great to see it all wrapped up at the end but it almost came out as a point by point showcasing of who and why. I loved it because it explained a lot but I also felt it could have been done more seamlessly.
The very end of the book was interesting and I'm still bouncing back and forth whether it was necessary or not but haven't quite made up my mind.
Great debut and I can only see her next books going up from here - will be checking them out for sure!
But, then I got hooked on the tangled stories of these seemingly a normal people. And what happened when the au pair and her charge disappeared?
I had trouble putting the book down! Was sure I knew the culprit but changed my mind a few times. I love a mystery with twists and this one had many more than most modern mysteries.
Good job on your first novel, Ms Esplin!
4 stars because of the f-bombs, but thanks for stopping before becoming too graphic when describing the infidelity.
