6++ Totally Badass Stars
Kate McCarthy's Give Me Series is like a drug to me. I can't get enough. It's an addiction I wish upon everyone who loves reading a romance with a side of badass. It will leave your heart pumping and craving another hit. This book to me was simply incredible. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!! We've been waiting for Casey's story since he stole our hearts in book #1 and it was more than worth the wait.
Right now, I'm struggling to accept the fact that this book has now moved to my read pile. I miss Casey and Grace so much already. I could have devoured this epic story in one looooong sitting but I took my time drinking it all in, not wanting to miss a thing. It was incredibly addictive with every single page highly entertaining. Casey is that special character that you pray will get the chance to tell his story but when his time finally arrives, you wish that it would just go on forever. Casey is kinda special to me and his story was absolutely perfect.
"I saw the love my best friend, Travis, had for his wife, Quinn. I watched how every touch between the two brought a light to their eyes. They put each other's happiness before their own. They mattered to each other. I wanted that"
I'm an absolute mess - Kate knows how to rip every emotion out of you. I cried, I swooned, I got hot, my heart raced, my mouth hung open for an absurd amount of time with plot twists hitting me out of nowhere. I literally read this book word. for. word. Hanging onto everything that I could, because it was one hell of a ride.
If you're looking for a suspenseful, action packed, beautiful, incredibly steamy romance filled with the hottest Aussie alphas on the planet, then this is it. This book has TWO of the h.o.t.t.e.s.t scenes I have ever read. And Casey & Grace's first kiss... Oh my lord, hot. Just so.damn.hot.
Kate's writing style is perfection and flowed effortlessly. Her characters are so vivid and the story line will suck you right in, keeping you on the edge of your seat and have you hooked until the very last page.
This is Casey's story. It's deep, it's emotional, it's intense and it's heartbreaking. It's also incredibly beautiful and heartwarming. Casey and Grace are perfect for each other and by perfect I mean perfectly imperfect. In the beginning, they're like a bomb ready to explode.
Grace Paterson is one of my favourite heroines. She's a firecracker. She's head strong, gutsy and doesn't take cr*p from anyone. She's also hiding a secret that she's desperate to keep because it will bring her entire world crashing down, taking everyone she knows with it.
Casey Daniels is what I call the perfect hero. He was that side character in books #1 and #2 that you were just dying to get to know and the one fighting the toughest battle. He's sexy, overprotective, cocky, stubborn and is oh my god sexy... oh wait, I already said that. ;)
I'm in love with you, Casey Daniels.
Now I just want to take a moment to mention the bromance in this book. Casey and Travis. I freaking love these two. They are so funny together, the perfect best friends. They pay each other out and it's hilarious, but one would take a bullet for the other and it just warms my heart. * sigh * Love these two.
"You're a big dude, Travis. You can take him on in a fight, can't you?" Travis shook his head, "These muscles are for display purposes only."
This book just blew me away. It's amazing, it's sexy, it's funny and it's full of action. Never a dull moment.
**This can be read as a standalone.
When the band needs a bass player to fill in for Frog, Henry calls in a favor from the sister he hasn’t seen in years. Grace has been working as a highly sought after model since she was a teenager, rarely going home once she was out the door. Watching them reconnect quickly led me to fall in love with Grace. They quickly had me in tears (and laughing uproariously) as they rebuilt the relationship that had fallen apart when Grace began her modeling career.
Grace seemed to have everything in her successful modeling career. But it was also clear she was not happy: running from something, avoiding phone calls, living with fear. At times I felt like she was the perfect match for Casey, while other times I wished she would just tell him what was going on rather than hurt him further with whatever she was hiding and that secret she was hiding kept me guessing the whole time I was reading. Her independent streak and occasional attitude were traits she developed after leaving home, but that she wore as armor. Watching her break down the walls around her was a treat.
“People come and go, Casey. Some crash into your life and leave in the blink of an eye, others stay with you for years, but it doesn’t matter how long you have them for, ... because the way they make you feel stays with you forever, and you've made me feel so much.”
Reading Casey’s story, I felt heartbreak after heartbreak for Casey. He never seemed to be able to catch a full break before the next challenge tackled him. As each layer of his past was peeled back, and each new present day challenge popped up, he dug further and further into my heart. His connection to the cases that have been reference in the other books made a lot more sense as I came to realize just how personal those jobs were to Casey.
“I promise you, Grace, no matter what happens, you’ll be with me forever, because you’re in my heart, and I won’t let you leave.”
This was one of those books where as often as I was hurting for the characters, I found myself grinning in amusement more than I would have anticipated. There are some great instances of sibling rivalry/shenanigans. And Mitsy the dog contributes to a few great comedic moments as well.
The whole group we've come to love in this series returns to support, encourage, and razz each other as only they can. As each book has come out, I have fallen further in love with this group of characters. As any great ensemble cast, they have great bonds and history between them, and those bonds only continue to grow stronger as their family expands.
Casey and Grace have a great mix of chemistry, independence, and skeletons in their closets to make this story one that will stick with me for some time. As the story unfolded it took me places I was not expecting, which only served to increase my love for it.
Like I said when I started writing this review, I almost feel bad for the books I read in the days after finishing Give Me Grace. This was a tough book to follow. I loved Casey and his story, and the way Grace filled up his cracks and fit into his family.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
First: I don't like it when the hero has sex with another woman, especially in the first chapter. I am reading a romance novel and this was explicit.
Second: the book seemed a bit different than the first 2. The language was more crude.
I loved Casey in Give Me Love/Give me strength and I still love Casey but this book did not blow me away as the others. It was a bit over the top and seemed to be aimed at heartstring-tugging (is that a word?)
There should have been a warning somehow about the subject matter. There is a HFN in my eyes.
Will look at book nr 4 but I hope the vibe of 1 and 2 comes back.
