This workbench is very nice. The top is a well finished five layer laminated bamboo. The finish is very smooth and professional with rounded edges. The legs and supports have a nice black textured paint. I appreciate the paint because it keeps it away from being that stale flat black. The supports and legs fit perfectly and all the holes are pre-drilled. Assembly was quick and easy and the workbench feels sturdy.
A worthwhile purchase. Keep an eye on the price as it does seem to fluctuate quite a bit.
I have used a bamboo cutting board in my kitchen for ten plus years. It has aged and held up amazingly. I would put it against any maple surface. I figured a thicker bamboo worktop table would hold up equally, as well.
So far, I have been extremely pleased with this bench. It arrived in perfect condition and was super easy to assemble. It took no longer than 20 minutes from unboxing to ready for use. It has feet that can be adjusted for perfect level. The bench is sturdy, and I was easily able to mount a larger and smaller vice with zero wobble. I have zero fear of putting a lot of weight nor pressure on the work surface.
If I were to deduct a half star, it is for the table finish. The bamboo itself holds up great. Yes, it will dent and scratch if you are hammering metal or cutting directly into the surface, but the wood itself is very hard and will take the abuse with final affects. The lacquer finish though is soft and scratches super easy. I wish the manufacture would have left the bamboo raw. I ended up sanding the finish off and oiling it down. The finish was super easy to remove as it isn't very strong. It looks stunning refinished. As I use it more and more, the better it looks with a little patina and the oil coat.
It took me around 60 minutes to assemble this workbench by myself. Once assembled I noted that my Husky tool chest fits perfectly underneath it. The Husky tool chest in itself is a work surface but I purchased the Gladiator workbench as it fits a nook in my garage perfectly, where as the husky is slightly shorter.
So far the Bamboo, while soft has stood up to four seasons and light-duty use without issue. I would definitely recommend!
