Hunky Derek is determined, sexy and perfect. Way, way, way too perfect. He courts and seduces Kelly with ease (and man do her panties fly off fast even though she keeps insisting that she's not interested in anything to do with men until she gets her business up and running), and when Kelly freaks out about a lost business opportunity and blames it on her involvement with Derek, he continues with his inhuman patience and tries to court her some more with flowers and understanding. Then a photo of his bare buns starts making their way around town, thanks to the fact that she texted it to her best friend when she took a picture of a stranger's hunky ass (first few pages of the book) only to eventually be caught up in a burgeoning relationship with the guy a few days later.
But the photo's doing the rounds while she's not talking to him because of her freak out, and then the local church starts picketing his store. And when he finally finds out that Kelly's the one who sent the picture, resulting in harrassment from the college girls and older single ladies, as well as the problems at his business and the loss of customers, is he mad? Upset?
Nope. It's totally cool, he understands that she didn't mean for it to get around.
Nobody is that freaking perfect. At this point I'd lost a lot of interest in the story because it was obvious that no matter what Kelly pulled, Derek was going to put up with it. And yeah they manage to tie things up at the end and she helps him get his side of the story out, but seriously... the girl has no repercussions to her irresponsible behavior.
About the only time Derek really reacts realistically is when he's confronted by Kelly's topless ex in her apartment.
This book could have been really great if Derek had just been more realistic and acted... you know... human. It also would have given some much needed real conflict to the book rather than just the issues that Kelly basically makes up in her head to slow the relationship down. The sex scenes are well written and pretty steamy, but they left me emotionally dissatisfied because I couldn't get over the fact that I really though Derek was too perfect for Kelly (or any woman really) and that they didn't connect well enough before they started going at it like rabbits.
What I loved about this book: It combines two things girls love: sexy men and doughnuts!
What I didn't like about this book: It's entirely too short Ranae Rose!!! I wanted more of that sexy Derek!
Let's talk about love scenes: So hot, there was smoke coming off of my kindle!
The Review: I don't read much erotica. There tends to be way too much sex and not enough story. In the case of 'Glazed' by Ranae Rose, I found there was the perfect balance of story and sexuality. The characters were likeable and beleiveable, the story relatable. For me it was a tad predictable as I was guessing what was going to happen before it happened, but I didn't mind the predictability at all. It was nice to sit back and read a book that is as enjoyable as a romantic comedy on a Friday Night. It is in no way heavy or cerebral. The book is just light, sassy fun mixed with sex scenes so scorchin' you may lose your eyebrows!
Naturally my favorite character in the book is Derek. He's sexy, athletic, and a hard-worker (which I find to be the biggest turn-on of all). Even when Kelly tries to push him away he pursues her in a way that makes you want to jump into the book and shake Kelly to her senses! Ms. Rose does and excellent job of making the reader wish she were the heroine just to get a piece of the hot and sexy hero.
One of the best things about this book is the in the midst of all the hot sex, Ms. Rose stops to offer the reader a lesson in safe sex. Too many books have couples just jumping into bed together without adding the very realistic element of "the condom talk" most couples have to have when starting a sexual relationship. If you're thinking that a condom commercial in the middle of a sexy scene kills the mood, then think again! Ms. Rose doesn't miss a beat and takes us right back into the action in a way that makes us forget there was even a moment involving contraception.
To sum it all up: I enjoyed this book. It was a light, fun read that had both humor and sex appeal. I would definitely read it again and look forward to reading other works by this author. Well done, Ms. Rose.
Glazed is a sweet and sassy romance. There are parts to this story that I really like and then others that I don't. At first I really liked Kelly's determination to start her own business but I felt that she became over-the-top when the first roadblock came along and blamed it all on Derek. While Kelly and Derek have great chemistry and there is a cute story going on within Glazed there were certain aspects that got on my nerves. Kelly's attitude combined with editing errors had this title going downhill for me.
