The Glider's newest design is slimmer so that you can clean glass in narrow spaces. The New Glider is the only window cleaner with four squeegees, 2 on each side, which ensures excellent results! The Adjustable Force Control allows you to adjust the magnetic grip according to the thickness of the window, allowing a smoothe and easy operation. Includes 2 microfiber polishing cloths. That said, it's still got problems.
First, the magnets are held in poorly on the smaller section. They're just held in by the tension of a small cap, not with glue or epoxy. The first time the smaller section came off the window, it hit against the building, and the magnet cap and magnet flew off, never to be seen again. I contacted the manufacturer, but they no longer make this version, so I had to buy a new magnet ($12) myself. I would recommend the first thing anyone using this to do is drop some waterproof epoxy in the magnet wells to keep them in place.
Second, it should have a safety cable on both sides of the cleaner, not just the inside. It may not be a big deal if you're cleaning a second story window, but I'm 90 feet up, and things get slippery. I ended up drilling a hole and attaching a new safety cable to the larger piece.
Also, I had to use the larger piece on the outside for my upper windows (again, hence the safety cable on both pieces) because the inside part was too large to raise my window overtop of, and I wasn't about to hang out the window next to it to try to put it on.
The velcro that attached the microfiber cloth didn't appear to be too water proof, it came off in like 20 minutes.
All that being said, if you want to use this as a starter kit before you mod it to make it better, it will clean your windows. Probably not perfectly, but if you get the hang of it, you can do a reasonable job. To recap, I had to add a safety cable, replace and epoxy in the magnets, and add new velcro, all after the first time I used it. But, for me, it's better than paying $400 to get riggers to drop down.Read more ›
What I've discovered so far:
-Separate the two parts by sliding them apart, not pulling, Also engage the two halves by sliding them across the glass.
-Experiment cleaning with an s-curve motion and side-to-side motion.
-You are not limited to the polishing cloths that come with the cleaner. Any microfiber cloth can be draped or wrapped it around each half of the cleaner.
-I'm still looking for a solution for filthy glass with stubborn build-up.
-The cleaner squeegees with a lot of force, more than I can apply with a regular squeegee, especially cleaning a hard-to-reach surface. Be ready for a workout!
-Can use with any microfiber cloth, although the package says to only use with the supplied polishing cloths.
-Seems to be fairly sturdy, should last.
-Allows me to clean outside window surfaces that would otherwise be impossible to clean. (Old second and third story windows that cannot be easily removed for cleaning.)
-Safer than getting to the windows using an extension ladder.
-Way cheaper and easier to store than a ladder.
-The safety line is not detachable. I don't always need it and it can be a nuisance.
-Getting the edges and corners of the windows clean and streak-free is tricky.
-Haven't located replacement squeegee blades for the cleaner. There is an 800 number on the package, will try calling.
-Maybe a third magnet would help keep the two halves from separating too easily.
-I'm hoping that once I've cleaned the windows, keeping them clean will be quicker and easier than this first cleaning. This is slower than a regular scrubber and squeegee, but probably not any slower than going up and down a ladder, at least for an amateur window washer.
-I'm still tempted to hire a professional.
