Guess what? It's worth it.
The iPhone has a decent camera, one that produces much better stills and video than the camera specs would indicate. With the plethora of additional camera apps available I found the need to mount the iPhone using a tripod mount.
I investigated several tripod mounting options for the iPhone 4 and chose this one. My iPhone goes around unashamedly naked. Yes, unprotected and exposed to the world or at least as exposed as it can get in an inner pocket of my Scott eVest.
That is important in this case as the Glif mount only works on a bare iPhone.
The Glif itself is a decent tripod mount. It supports your camera, but just barely. (No pun intended.) It doesn't take much movement for the camera to slip out of the mount. But if you're only going to use it on a tripod in the "normal" position and protected from movement it'll be ok. Probably.
The Glif Plus comes with the Serif, an additional arm that clamps over the Glif and to the side of the phone. This creates a much more secure mount. So secure that I have the Glyph and Serif hanging upside down from a Panavise windshield mount in my car, mounted just below the rearview mirror. This is now my iPhone car mount. I can use for TomTom satnav (my normal use), use the main camera for video as I drive (I have a time lapse video camera app that's very cool) or the front facing camera for video blogging. It is secure enough that I'm willing to use it on a camera mount on the handlebar of my Goldwing motorcycle though I'll probably tether it using a dead charging cable just for safety.Read more ›
- Very simple technology
- Good quality high-impact plastic
- Really holds the iPhone in place
- Must remove your iPhone from any protective case in order to use it
- Removing the iPhone from the case means the phone is only partially protected, and any drop may be fatal
- Two interlocking parts makes it a bit of a hassle to set up, on top of first removing your phone from the case
- Very expensive for what this is
- The cardboard stand is plain silly/ impractical
- Better solutions for less money available, where (a) you don't need to remove the phone from the case and (b) there is one single integrated unit that requires no assembly
Recommend RetiCAM® Smartphone metal Tripod Mount--more bang for the buck and just a better solution
The ease of use of the actual Glif (and StudioNeat also have a good stop-motion app called Frameographer on the App Store) is encouraging to those who may not have thought they could do more than take standard photographs with their iPhone 4/S.
A great idea well executed.
You can not use it with a screen cover or iPhone case, but it is compatible with the Ollo Clip (and probably other lens attachments too).
The meat and potatoes of this is the Glif itself. The little cardboard "tripod" it comes with is really just a packing box, not that functional. However, this product works well with a Gorilla Pod or other portable tripod.
It's main purpose is to give you the bottom tripod screw in socket that every other camera has. Now you can get an iPhone to screw into any tripod as well!

Expensive, but works as described in literature. After some small adjustments, only this product would have worked with some of my configurations.Published 16 months ago by Jerry

This two-pronged way of holding up your IPhone either for reading it on a desk or tripod it for a pic is pretty amazing. Remember, don't throw out the cardboard box holder! Read morePublished on February 11, 2014 by M. Suppelsa
I had to remove my case every time I wanted to use this. The case is not easy to remove, so I don't use the tripod much.Published on January 3, 2014 by DasLuder62
