About the Author
L.A. Fiore is the author of several books, including Beautifully Damaged, Waiting for the One, and Just Me. Her favorite condiment is salt due to its versatility as both a food enhancer and a form of protection against supernatural visitors—especially since her ill-mannered cats are dropping the ball in their roles as guardians of the underworld. I love a book that throws me for a loop, and boy did this one! Just when I thought the story was going one way...BAM...I was speechless!
It was an amazing twist that I never saw coming!
I love how we are taken through the years of Teagan and Kane's story. Starting when they first met at ages 11 and 9 as heartbroken children. Kane was the one person that helped Teagan through the loss of her parents. Their friendship was one you would dream of having as a child-filled with fun, pranks, laughter, and love.
"I'd never had a best friend, but I had one now. We understood each other, almost as if he were an extension of me and me of him."
I was so much in Swoonville with Kane. The way he would talk to Tea, and how he did anything and everything to make her happy.
Then IT happened.
He pushed her away.
I. About. Died!!
No spoilers here! You know they break up in the blurb, but WOW, it's devastating!!! I felt like I was Tea! Crazy as that sounds, but it's true. My poor heart was breaking with hers and I just wanted to ring his neck!
"Please, just tell me what happened to you. What happened to my Kane? I miss him everyday."
"Let it go, Teagan, please just let it go."
As the story progresses, you find out what happened all those years ago. It's sad, and my emotions were everywhere.
L.A. Fiore held nothing back with this one!
I went from loving Kane, to hating him, back to loving him to pieces. I wanted to hold both him and Teagan and get them through this whole thing.
"Telling the one person I wanted most that I didn't want her. It took everything in me not to grab you and never let go. But then reality returned, and I knew that tying you to me, to this life...you deserved better than that."
Not only was it a story about their relationship, but also the relationships between them and their friends. You fall in love with the three wonderful people that raised Kane and Teagan. They are amazing people! Also, you will find your own best friend in Simon! Love that man!
This story pulled every heartstring that I have!
I smiled throughout their childhood at the crazy pranks involving toads and worms (believe me, it's great!).
I swooned when they fell in love as teenagers.
I cried and cursed at the heartbreak they both endured.
Then I fell in love all over again with these two beautifully broken people.
"You said I needed to make the first move. I want to make the first move, Tea. I just don't know if I'll ever be the guy you deserve."
"You already are."
Again, I think this book was wonderful! Thank you, L.A. Fiore for giving us Kane and Tea! They are unbelievable characters that will forever stay in my heart.
I can't wait for everyone to read this story!!
"You made me promise once, remember? You made me promise I would never leave you. I meant it then and I mean it now. I'll never leave you. Now you need to make that promise to me."
"Never, Tea, You're my home."
This is truly Ms. Fiore's Tour de Force. Every character, you want in your life. Every word, necesary. Not one emotion is evoked gratuitously. All plot lines are realistic, well fleshed out and executed brilliantly.
I have read and reread this book dozens of times. And every time I finish, I have a sense of time well spent.
I've recently become a fan of LA Fiore and am gobbling up as many of her books as possible. This book os as well written as her others. Great characters and great plot.
I marked this as a 4 star because as I read this book, I felt like I was in it. Well defined story and it kept the reader moving. I really couldn't put it down! BUT there were a couple of times that the subplot got a bit much and I found myself skimming to get beyond it.
Near the end, the conflict throughout the book came to a sudden halt. After all the angst in the book, this just happened too quickly for my taste. It felt rushed, like the author (or an editing body) said "I'm done and here's those pesky tie-up-into-a-bow details."
So overall, I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to another novel by Ms Fiore.
Of course there is a happily ever after it’s the journey that makes this book worth the read. It is full of love, angst, heartbreak and joy. You will fall in love with these characters like I have.
