A wonderful and easy to read book about a family who has hard decisions to make about the family's future and safety. You can "feel" the feelings expressed by the author and feel like you are a part of their family. This family has been wonderful neighbors since they moved from Lebanon to the United States. We have enjoyed watching the author and her brothers grow up to be hard workers and exceptional citizens of the U.S. The author not only expresses herself beautifully but is an excellent wildlife photographer.

Classified as “a collection of micro-memoirs,” Sylvie Feghali Smith’s “A Glimpse into My Life” gives a micro glimpse into the life of an immigrant from war-torn Lebanon. Actually, the short book is a collection of speeches given at the author’s Toastmasters Club. Unfortunately, these nine very brief stories reveal little. I am disappointed the author did not go into depth, did not reveal much, and only hinted at what is most certainly a fascinating and interesting life experience. This glimpse of a glimpse left me wanting more. In one speech, for example, she refers to “. . .a forty-hour adventure across the Atlantic Ocean, worthy of its own narrative . . .” Well, I want to hear that narrative.

The author related her chilling experiences growing up in Lebanon, surrounded by bullets and bombs, and coming to the United States at age 18 with her family. She faces challenges raising her kids and having to deal with ADHD. She introduces us to members of her family. And that’s about all. I’m waiting for the sequel.
