So I wait, and wait 3 days goes by and the game comes in, its packaged really professionally and looks like it should have ended up on the shelves at best buy or somethings, looks alot better then some casing to more professional looking and more recognized games that are out on PC.
When you open it up, its double booked so each cover has something that folds out on the inside, comes with a neat poster and an art book, with the game (obviously) and a slit of paper with some key codes on it, which unlock 2 helmets, one is a running joke theme that goes with the (no more elves) commercial they run on you-tube,its a night elf looking face covered by a cowl that looks like something burger king or mcdonalds would have designed for its employees back in the 70's, also there is a neat metal skull helmet you get for your character as well, im sucker for skulls and death and stuff like that so I wore it for a while.
So far besides the extra headgear you can easily sell or throw away, I havent seen any extra cool things they give you for buying the special edition, so if you wanna save 15 or 20 bucks just go with the direct download and save some cash, but if you just want extra stuff like the art and things like that, go right ahead, other than that there is something called a "seasonal shop" where they put out new helmets every so often, and to my assumption take the old ones away so you cant buy them anymore.
I initially bought the game cause i missed Tabula Rasa, although this has that feel, it does but doesnt have the same concept as that game, yes there are robots instead of aliens trying to take over the planet... yes you get to level up.... and there is a skill tree in which you pick what best fits your playing style, and then there are 4 classes to pick from and you can pick that part of the tree that corresponds to how you think you might play, each weapon has a stronger or better or all out different version then the gun or item you have in your inventory.
You have skill points also to spread across your weapons, from class 1 to class 5, class 5 being the strongest... but they all cant be the strongest, you have to pick which one will be best used for that mission.
There is a spaceship bunker that when you die or spawn into the game, you can actually change them on the fly in that holding area then you are free to go help your party members if they are getting their asses handed to them, there is also a heavy concept of cooperation all of you is as strong as 1 of you, only if you have the proper people backing you up and doing their job.
Although id really like to see more of an open ended PVE enviro, like tabula, its very controlled in where you go to your map, pick the hardness of the area you wanna visit, then you wait for the game to pair you up and then pray to god someone wants to play with you, if someone dont wanna play or they time out, the rotation starts all over again, and this has happend to me about 7 times in a row over a span of 15 minutes, of course if you dont like that you can drop into PVP...i have no comment on that cause im not much into PVP.
If you like taking a break from magic casting warlock elves and your run of the mill no reward shooters like Battlefield series is getting you down, try this...if you like FPS like Halo, and you like to lvl up like World of Warcraft and gain cool abilities, this is a nice mix of any 2 of the genre.
There are roughly four types of combat:
PvE: A player joins a que (or with an already created group) and plays with a team totaling four players. The object is to blast your way through mutliple enemys, robotic and cybernetic, to face the final boss. The difficulty of the missions after easy and medium is much more potent and tactics and team communication are REQUIRED for succes. (the game comes with VOIP, but you can type statements too)
PvP: Comes in three different flavors
Agency vs Agency: Player made agencys vie for control of a territory and requires team resource management, diplomacy with other players and various other strategies. (THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR WITH A SUBSCRIPTION)
Mercenary: If your don't pay for the subscription then no prob, you can still experience most of the content you get in AvA. When you join this, you are basicaly setting yourself up as a mercenary, and you fight other players in roughly six game play modes which boil down to;Bombing the other guys base, controling an area, defending zones, and escorting resources. All require teamwork to succeed, and this is really were you get paid (in game).
Virtual Arena: If you just feel like testing that weapon you unlocked, or practicing your pvp skills with no consequence, then this is were you go. I must say that you should be wary the first time you are transported in, as noobs will be quickly dispatched lol.
The new 3.1 patch will also include several new gameplay modes plus new weps, armor, and tonnes of other things. But the biggest thing it will offer is a new open world to explore.
