This book does a fine job of describing a variety of spiritual movements across the globe and gives a cogent analysis of key factors that enables them to thrive plus an attempt to understand their cyclical nature. The author obviously have a lot of knowledge in the area and has done thorough research including on site observation and analysis, without losing the excitement of their life-changing power. Very much worth reading.

As the 3 star official Amazon statement suggests, "It's ok." At some moments interesting, at other moments just trailing off a list of names.

A must read for pastors, missionaries, and those wanting to see revival sweep through your land. One of those books you will read and save as a resource.

Mark Shaw has done us all a service by presenting a great book detailing the role that revival has played in God's work around the world.

Oftentimes when discussing the subject of revival/renewal/awakening, the emphasis is on events that have happened in England and America (e.g., First and Second Great Awakening, the Methodist Revival). But Shaw does a great job bringing together examples from all over the world.

Considering that each revival is only given, on average, about 20 pages of ink, these are not detailed histories of each revival. But it serves as a great introduction to a number of Christian movements, with which the reader may have been otherwise unaware.

Shaw also endeavors to integrate the lessons learned from each revival in a concluding chapter. The similarities and differences between these various movements are very insightful.

It drags a bit more than the other book I read by Shaw. It is OK.
