This revised edition of Ralph Alexander’s 2009 book features approximately 50% new or updated material, including an expanded chapter on alternative explanations to CO2 as the main source of global warming. Newly added sections in the 2nd edition cover temperature tampering by the three major custodians of the world’s temperature data, so as to exaggerate the global warming rate; the Climategate scandal; the use of peer review as an alarmist weapon; the neglected influence of the sun on our climate, including the amplification of solar activity by the oceans; heat that is suppposedly hiding in the deep ocean, but can’t be found; and more. The new book also describes how the UN’s IPCC and other alarmists manipulate climate data, discusses the lack of warming for more than a decade – about which alarmists are in denial, and explains the folly of carbon pricing schemes for regulating CO2. Finally, the author reflects on the reasons that so many people erroneously believe recent climate change comes from human activity, when there’s ample evidence to the contrary.

I bought this book because I wanted to have some facts to share with friends about why "global warming" is a fake, created by special interests as a way to make money.

The author did a great job of EDUCATING me on the false "science" (if you can call it that) used by the global warming fanatics.

I enjoyed the science lessons and learning about how the sun affects climate (more complex than I thought) and it was very revealing to learn how LITTLE we "really" know about how climate is created and regulated in the first place.

I personally think that as the world (at least the Western world) has grown more secular and less religious, people have a void in their lives. All you need to do is join the Church of Global Warming Alarmists - what better new religion than to save the world - from ourselves. And there are, IMO, some really crafty people out there who have figured out how to make lots and lots of $$$ while they do it!

For cripes sake, you can "throw away" $12.50 on carbon credits at the airport because you feel "guilty" about the fuel used on the flight you are on. Come on!

I will remember forever the quote about computer models: "With 4 (adjustable) parameters, I can fit in an elephant. And, with 5, I can make him wiggle his trunk." Mathematicin John von Neumann. And the whole damn thing is based on....COMPUTER MODELS!!!!

Well, we have a 3 ring circus full of elphants - only not so entertaining when you realize the draconian laws about to be passed, the taxes to be levied and the changes governments would like to make to our lives (lower standard of living) for something that is a FAKE. All courtesy of the IPCC - who answers to no one really and persecutes and ridicules those who try to bring the "science" back on track.

And the "inconsistencies":

Silly stuff like the Primevial Warming Period, which was MUCH hotter than any temperatures we know now, but gee that doesn't really fit so - whosh - it's gone!

More inconvenient items like atmospheric temperatures, gathered by satellites and weather balloons that prove there is little or NO global warming - just leave 'em out!

Go ahead, locate many of your weather stations on airport property on or near black top, concete buildings and automotive traffic - then call it an "accurate temperature" which proves warming.

China and Russia took out many of their weather stations, so there's no data - but that's not a problem - MAKE IT UP! (Do you see elephants???)

CRAZY stuff - but "they" did these things and more and as a result many, many people are buying the global warming snake oil this group of liars is selling.

Thank you Ralph B. Alexander for writing an easy to read, informative, instructive book for "deniers" like me to read and have factual ideas to present to my friends who have run off and joined this new religion. Some of them listen, some of them have purchased and read this book - and some of them are really ANGRY that they were lied to by "experts" and to this amazing extent. They feel like fools - but they are not - after all, it's the "government" telling you this crap, and being awarded Nobel Prizes along the way.

Enough - BUY THIS BOOK - go on a religious crusade of your own, share the info with your friends and family - it's time to STOP THE INSANITY of Global Warming!!!

This was the third book on the topic that I have read. 'Blue Planet in Green Shackles' and 'heaven+earth, global warming: the missing science' were the other two. R.Alexander has a balanced look at the evidence. The book is well structured. His arguments are excellent, supported by relevant evidence and are written for the non-technical person. He points out the mandate of the IPCC, its contribution to the politicisation of the issue, and the vilification of scientists and others with dissenting views. His summaries on the way through are very good as milestones in building the case.

Alexander puts the possible contribution of anthropogenic-CO2 to current global warming in perspective with other critical elements of the whole system, such as the sun, water vapour, major ocean currents and volcanoes. He also puts the current warming event in context with what has happened on earth through millennia.

This book is recommended reading for anyone interested in the issue.

Application of scientific principles to the understanding of weather patterns without fear and hysteria. The book references all data and reviews in the context of the hypotheses concerning our current understanding of Earths climate. The author references the reporting of the IPCC and the work of others and it really highlights that it is far too early to draw conclusions and to select one cause as the only driver of global temperatures. Also, as more data is collected from various sources, the statistical analyses are most important as well as including all data without being selective. After reading the book it is most disturbing that science has been politicised and that the general public is being misled by politicians. We must adapt to our climate variability, take care of our environments, improve air quality and protect waterways. Focusing on CO2 is a major distraction and you have to ask why?

I was interested in learning about the Global Warming debate. I stumbled on a very negative, biased review of Global Warming detailing chapter by chapter what was wrong with the book. I immediately ordered the book. I was not disappointed. I now understand the flaws in the global warming un-scientific, poor computer models and assumptions. Alternative explanations of temperature fluctuations were presented that more study will explain our environment, and, how much we still must investigate.

One of the major points of the book dealt with the bias of placement of temperature sensing stations located in "hot" spots. A recent NOAA announcement that 600 of these stations were shut down for this bias confirmed my belief that this is a must read book to become informed about what is really going on with global warming.

This is a book for all those who have difficulty in accepting the widely held belief that man is causing global warming. Basics of the science of climate and climate change are straightforwardly explained in terms easily understood by the non scientist. The many variables that can affect the earth's climate - many still poorly understood - are described. The methods and information used by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)for their modelling that is being used as proof of man made global warming and the conclusions drawn therefrom are well and truly debunked.

The information is presented in an unbiased manner. He demonstrates the fraud using their own words and data. For the first half of the book he makes no inferences and draws no conclusions, simply setting out the debate and showing their own internal contradictions. Recent events have shown that all of his conclusions are true. The UN is corrupt, and the scientific establishment will commit any perfidy, including the debasement of science, in their pursuit of the dollar, fame and power. Anyone remember HIV and a guy named Gallo?

5.0 out of 5 stars A scientist speaks out

Here is the response of a scientist dismayed at the harm done to science by the AGW movement, both its core promoters and its incidental beneficiaries. Criticism of all aspects of a very wide subject are drawn together in a concise and readable style.

Here is portrayed a debasement of scientific principles, compounded by the way in which funding and the freedom to publish or criticise have been colonised. Single-tracked obsessions have occurred elsewhere within science from time to time, but never has the philosophical basis of the discovery process been compromised in this way.

Scientific malfeasance is exposed at every level: distortion of raw data, cherry-picking of results, manipulation of statistics, use of fudge factors and biased presentation as well as exclusion of conflicting views by secrecy or suppression. Motives, whether professional, financial, political or merely superstitious, are explored in some detail.

Climate science, in the true sense, is hampered by such a distorted presentation of the hypothesis that CO2 is the sole driver of change to the exclusion of natural cycles and their possible causes. Despite which, alternative well-founded explanations for climate change do continue to be explored, all capable of accommodating the recent departure from monotonic global temperature rise that leaves adherents of the IPCC's flawed models floundering for excuses.

An extensive bibliography provides entry to detailed coverage of every aspect of the climate change controversy, including original papers by truly innovative researchers.

An appendix deals with how feedback can modify any driving factor, for example a doubling of CO2 levels. It provides a lucid illustration of how the arbitrary assignment of a convenient value to this component of a computer model can guarantee any desired prediction - at least until outcomes render it inconvenient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thorogh but maybe a bit combative
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 29, 2021
This book is quite an exhaustive trip through many of the weaknesses of the arguments for man-made climate change. It either touches on, or covers in detail, a number of topics. Inevitably for a book published in 2012 it does not cover some of the more recent developments in this area.

For example, it covers the “pause” in global temperature in the noughties that gave rise to many learned papers, but was too early for the way that was tidied over by amending both the main surface temperature data sets and one of the satellite global temperature data sets to eliminate the pause. It also predates the IPCC assessment reports AR5 (2014) and AR6 (2021), although neither of these have much bearing on the points that he makes.

If the book has a weakness, it is perhaps too dismissive and too judgemental. Those who already have doubts about man-made climate change will appreciate it: but it would be unlikely to cause a believer to change his/her mind.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 3, 2018
Over 400 citations. Index. Excellent reference. Published in 2012 but still worth buying. Written by a scientist who concentrates on giving a scientific refutation of the IPCC.

Against: Because he's refuting the IPCC he does not give a comprehensive explanation of what we know of how climate works. This is a refutation only; otherwise it might run into a thousand pages. It is 224 pages.
