This isn't your average sports history book. Roberto González Echevarría is not a journalist; he is a Lit. Prof. at Yale Univ. This books sees baseball as art and cultural expression. It correlates different stages in Cuba's history with the development of the sport. It is a masterpiece worth reading by anyone who is even remotely inetrested in baseball history, but more than that it should be read by all those interested in learning about Cuban history. One of the best books I have ever read. If you enjoyed Beyond a Boundary by C.L.R. James, then this book is for you. History, politics, culture, and sports intertwined!
