Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

It's hard to decide whether Issett's second book (her first being Colour on Paper and Fabric, 1998) is intended more as inspiration or as down-to-earth instruction. Best guess is that it is a bit of both, because the photography alone will entrance and seduce. The assumption is that readers will have more than just a touching acquaintance with papers and inks, although the first few chapters cover materials, equipment, and colors. Featured are techniques for applying oil and wax as well as the varying uses of texture gels; directions are broad enough to allow for creativity while providing the basic procedures. Confused about all the choices? The final chapter outlines a few recommendations to follow, such as "plain papers give a sense of space" and "study the layout of a newspaper page." Unusual ideas; unusual results. List of suppliers appended. Barbara Jacobs
