The information in the book was very helpful to me. I am 61 years old and have pre-diabetes. I need information on carbohydrates and foods that have a high glycemic index. This book is all I need to point me in the right direction for healthy eating.

I've had diabetes for close to 15 years, but I read explanations in this book that answered questions my physician hadn't made clear in all that time.

The glycemic index is an interesting concept, but for those with diabetes or prediabetes, glycemic index is not foolproof. The index was created using normal people. Those of us who have whacky systems, something that is has a low glycemic value may send out blood glucose through the roof. Interesting read, but somewhat misleading for that reason.

I have studied this book thoroughly three times now and it has enhanced my in depth understanding as to why my BGL readings fluctuate from day to day. Every diabetic needs to have this comprehensive reference book on their bookshelf and to study it thoroughly. This sort of knowledge mitigates a diabetic's concern about day to day fluctuations in their BGL's.

Excellent book with good information. Anyone who may be on track to have adult onset diabetes should read this and make the right changes to their diet. I took the advice in the book as to what to avoid eating and also added cinnamon to my supplements. I have lost 20 pounds over 2 1/2 months just from changing my diet and will have my blood sugar level checked again this fall.

Unless one has a scientific/medical perspective, understanding fully the details of glucose in the blood can be intimidating. Dr. Brand-Miller approaches the topic from the perspective of the patient, not the doctor. A question and answer format narrows the focus of each topic. As a pre-diabetic, I found her explanations both clear and concise.
