I adore the work of Melissa Diane Smith because she's been at the forefront of warning people about the dangers to their health that comes from consuming grains. Yes, those same "healthy whole grains" that our government through the USDA keep ramming down our throats to be consuming MORE of. But why do Americans still battle with ever-increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, and other chronic health issues? It's the grains which Smith totally debunks in her brilliant book Going Against the Grain: How Reducing and Avoiding Grains Can Revitalize Your Health.

But in GLUTEN FREE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR: A TWO-YEAR, MONTH-TO-MONTH GUIDE FOR HEALTHY EATING, she offers us practical ways for people to make their low-carb, grain-free diet into a lifelong lifestyle change. Many people are intimidated by making changes like this in their nutritional plan because it can be quite challenging. I know because I did this beginning back in 2004 when I weighed in at 410 pounds and on three prescription medications. But thanks to kicking grains, sugar, and starchy carbohydrates, I was able to shed triple-digit weight and come completely off of all my medications. The same if not better results could happen for you if you make the decision to go low-carb, gluten free!

Smith guides you through all of the inevitabilities of life that can happen in a two-year period. Most books only offer 30 or 60 days and then leave you on your own. This one goes TWO FULL YEARS to develop strong habits that reinforce one another. But it goes even further than simply removing grains. You also learn what's wrong with consuming dairy, vegetable oils, corn, and other neolithic aspects of the modern diet. She provides amazing replacement foods for all of your favorites as well. What a fabulous resource for people with Celiac disease, low-carb and Paleo dieters!
