The premise is quite interesting. An unexplained suicide, a little boy growing up looking for answers, and the mysterious new world of genetic manipulation. Atkins builds a story of suspense and fear as events begin to take a dark turn. He skillfully weaves the supernatural elements of his narrative into a believable scientific framework. That is, until Satan appears. The complex narrative slips into the "Satan made me do it" storyline. Instead of the intricate interaction between elemental forces, we have "His names are many... Loki, Anon, Lucifer..." and so on. So it's all the devil huh? I was hoping for something more out of this one.
What began as a fascinating study of magic and reality ended as a quip-filled portal to Hell tale. An idea that could have been better had Atkins given it more depth. Interesting, but not compelling.
